WIN $3000 if you can defeat Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel at Computex - Page 10

As I said, all of the negative comments are directly aimed at his integrity as a human being. Simply because he plays video games for a living... that's not hard to see.
You just keep bringing B-side arguments to a C-side debater.

I'm saying, YOU and everyone else shouldn't be saying anything great about this guy as he's nothing more than a gamer that got lucky. Where his money comes from has nothing to do with him and everything to do with ABIT/Cooler Master/Zalman/ PowerColor. THEY are the ones that thought up the idea, he's just the lucky guy they picked for a face.

If you don't believe me, look again, because this thread exists entirely because of their marketing departments. "Hey we should milk the pro gamer/Fatal1ty thing more and make like some public wager challenge to him".

They KNOW people can beat him and they know someone will, that's why the reward is like 3 grand and not 150 grand or a Ferrari like it was in 97 with Carmack.

You're missing the issue. I'm not criticizing the fact that he makes millions of dollors gaming, I'm criticizing the fact that people are saying it's BECAUSE he's good at games that he makes millions of dollars.

The truth is, pro gaming is not some established economy/profession. You can't be a pro gamer and make even ends' meet just because you're good. You could be godly and make crap every month. You could even be the best and be poor as dirt. Why? Because it's a HOBBY. People want to be good at what you do, not watch you do it/have you do it for them.

The bottom line is, economy is based on service/desire. What people either want, want to do, or want to see someone do is what gets money in people's pockets. You don't make money being good at watching TV do you? You don't make money being good at putting puzzles together do you? You don't make money being good at biting your fingernails do you? You don't make money being good at taking naps do you? No, you don't.

So you don't make money being good at playing video-games, just if you're really good and someone happens to make a Youtube video about you, you might be the first to get paid FOR doing it, but it's not BECAUSE you do it, it's merely because YOUR FACE is on it. That's it.

No one cares how good Fatal1ty is, he's just a face on a product. When's the last time you saw Fox TV's Reality Show "How to be a pro gamer?" When's the last time there's been a gaming movie that was successful since The Wizard? When's the last time you've paid money to watch people play video-games?

There's nothing miraculous about what he does. Don't call me a hater for having better perception than most people, I can just tell the difference between a genius and someone who got lucky. A lottery ticket and being sponsored for a hobby are two and the same to me.

And then he says...

Did you just... take away... my opinion? I could stop there, should stop there because you expose your hypocrisy like a bad Paris Hilton scandal.

But, here again, nobody in this thread is praising him for having his face on a box. Nobody is even saying he SUCKS for having his face on a box, at that.

EVERYONE has SAID that he's lame or a loser for playing video games for a living. PLEASE point out where anyone IN THIS THREAD said he sucks for having his name on a box.

You're good at finding an agruement where it doesn't exist; a true sheep herder, man. I honestly commend you on that. I guess no one catches the fact that you're never actually arguing about what anyone else is talking about.

You would not stand a chance against him in any game. He did play cs and had his own CAL-I team which did very well. You can get a video of him destroying ZEX on dust2 at gamefrags.

Okay, NOW Nameless can go on about marketing ethics. I'm thinkin' this is the FIRST official post in this thread that actually deals with that.

Let me make my argument simple so you can not avoid my point:

Should we commend and idolize people that win the lottery?

You're giving credit to the wrong people. The marketing manager that first decided to sponsor Fatal1ty and make "Fatal1ty" branded products is the person that deserves credit, NOT Johnathan Wendel. He's a pawn.

And no, it's not bashing or "player hating lol GGGG G UNIT!". It's the truth. It's not my fault the truth tastes bad, you're the one who hasn't swallowed it yet.
Actually, I did read your post. Did you?

That's not bashing? I seriously doubt he woke up one morning and thought to himself, "Hey, I can use my reputation to rip people off". Probably more along the lines of the hardware companies going to him and saying they want to use his name and reputation to market their products. One momment you criticize him for ripping people off and in the next you are saying all the credit should go to the marketing manager. Isn't the marketing manager the one who realized they could slap a gamer's name on a product and bump up the price and as you put it "rip off newbie computer hardware enthusiasts"

Additionally, how can you compare someone winning the lottery to someone who's skills were the right thing at the right place and time for someone with money to notice. He obviously had to have enough skills to impress someone.

I'm with you on that point. Pistol Whip to the temple FTW.

Why only a $3000 prize? That kid must make a ton of money. $3000 will barely buy a top end machine.

Casual gamers also FTW.

As an aside, what's with all these super long posts from people?? I think there should be a rule where if your post in a thread is longer than the original or beginning post, you fail. Automatically. I mean c'mon, if you can't express yourself in a few brief sentences, you're trying too damn hard. It makes reading through threads ridiculously annoying.

Sometimes you just have a lot to write about. However, most of the time it's used as a common tactic in web debates; its purpose is to bore the opponent into submission by forcing him to read uberlong mindnumbing posts.
