But, you're the only one in this thread arguing for the sake of marketing's purity. Nobody else is concerned with the marketing part... if you read the thread through like you tell everyone else.
As I said, all of the negative comments are directly aimed at his integrity as a human being. Simply because he plays video games for a living... that's not hard to see.
I'm saying, YOU and everyone else shouldn't be saying anything great about this guy as he's nothing more than a gamer that got lucky. Where his money comes from has nothing to do with him and everything to do with ABIT/Cooler Master/Zalman/ PowerColor. THEY are the ones that thought up the idea, he's just the lucky guy they picked for a face.
If you don't believe me, look again, because this thread exists entirely because of their marketing departments. "Hey we should milk the pro gamer/Fatal1ty thing more and make like some public wager challenge to him".
They KNOW people can beat him and they know someone will, that's why the reward is like 3 grand and not 150 grand or a Ferrari like it was in 97 with Carmack.
You're missing the issue. I'm not criticizing the fact that he makes millions of dollors gaming, I'm criticizing the fact that people are saying it's BECAUSE he's good at games that he makes millions of dollars.
The truth is, pro gaming is not some established economy/profession. You can't be a pro gamer and make even ends' meet just because you're good. You could be godly and make crap every month. You could even be the best and be poor as dirt. Why? Because it's a HOBBY. People want to be good at what you do, not watch you do it/have you do it for them.
The bottom line is, economy is based on service/desire. What people either want, want to do, or want to see someone do is what gets money in people's pockets. You don't make money being good at watching TV do you? You don't make money being good at putting puzzles together do you? You don't make money being good at biting your fingernails do you? You don't make money being good at taking naps do you? No, you don't.
So you don't make money being good at playing video-games, just if you're really good and someone happens to make a Youtube video about you, you might be the first to get paid FOR doing it, but it's not BECAUSE you do it, it's merely because YOUR FACE is on it. That's it.
No one cares how good Fatal1ty is, he's just a face on a product. When's the last time you saw Fox TV's Reality Show "How to be a pro gamer?" When's the last time there's been a gaming movie that was successful since The Wizard? When's the last time you've paid money to watch people play video-games?
There's nothing miraculous about what he does. Don't call me a hater for having better perception than most people, I can just tell the difference between a genius and someone who got lucky. A lottery ticket and being sponsored for a hobby are two and the same to me.
