This makes sense to me now... At load with speedfan i hit 50c that is 65c under TAT... However I have a 100c TCC...So if i remove the 15c from TAT i get what Speedfan reads...

Now we are not worried about reading the T_junction anymore... We need the T_case reading instead.. So if i run my cpu at its max T_case of 61.4C, that would leave TAT reading 76.4C... However this is not too high... Mine being a 100c TCC...

My suggestion is this

Run CoreTemp to find your TCC (T_junction)
Find your T_case max (from my first post, second link)
Run speedfan and TAT together to verify what i have said
Keep speedfan below your T_case max

LOL That's what I was thinking!!! If everyone has been using TaT to calculate temps then real Load temps are SOOOOO low. O_O!

I've been looking into this "No T_junction" thing..

All i can find on the net so far is that the C2DX's and the C2Q's may actually not have an "on die-diode" or T_junction....

So far this is all i can find...I'll keep looking...



I have visited many forums that have addressed this TAT issue months ago... They all have different ways and formulas that all come to the same conclusions... What i did was take those formulas and find a common link between them all...and the T_junction of 85c or 100c was it..Along with what Intel said about reading the T_case only, i think we are as close as we have ever been to finding our REAL temps..

What i feel sorry for are those who had 4300's with really high temp in TAT...some ripped of their IHS (a few busted their cpu)...Others lapped and lapped and thermal pasted time and time again until the motherboard broke...All because of a lack of info...

so TAT does not work for the 4300's, what about core temp. is that accurate? a friend of mine has been getting coretemp reading 15c higher than speedfan core readings so i would say coretemp has the same issue as TAT

Don't misunderstand this..

TAT works on C2D's that have a T_junction of 85C....TAT does NOT work on C2D's that have a T_junction of 100C...Well it works but its 15 too high..

CoreTemp reads the same diode that TAT does...So CoreTemp could be wrong as well...or again just 15 too high..

Never the less, We should stop using TAT all together, and we should start using SpeedFan again to monitor our T_case instead, and then keep the T_case lower than what Intel says is its max...

Ok..T Junction applies only to Mobile chips, lack of IHS. That is why we see a T Junction of 100, on Die temp will be hotter then TC (IHS temp) which applies to desktop processors. You follow me

No where do you see T Junction mentioned with the Desktop processors, yet with the mobile chips it's posted everywhere.

i read it and it only confused my more. he said something about the DST or something like that but never explained what the DST was.

@muncher: so when we use speedfan we want to be concerned with the cpu temp and not the core temperatures, correct?

so using speedfan, we shouldnt use the core temperatures, but the cpu temperature?

EDIT: check out my pic, temps taken using speedfan, coretemp, and everest. i believe the first temperature on speedfan is the CPU temp. ambient temp is 22.5c at the time of the pic.
