kinda off topic...

i herd somewhere in this forum that a 8800GTX can run GDDR4 ram with only a bios update...

i'm trying to look it up on google to see if it has any truth to it...

When my 8800GTX gets here i'm going to do the GDDR4 ram upgrade to it... if its even possible...

So all the people that have a 8800GTX dont go for the 8900GTX... all it is is the same card with GDDR4 ram and a core that clocks a little higher...

nothing a ram mod and a oc couldn't do to fix the 8800GTX...
good enough

8900GTX just looks like a die shrink from 90nm to 80 nm & higher clocks.

???

You can't make GDDR3 into GDDR4. Same reason DDR isn't DDR2.

I was told by an nVidia Techical Marketing Director Nick Stam that 8800's were ready for GDDR4. That GDDR4 could simply replace the GDDR3 and the cards would run. However, there was no need at the time for the additional expense of GDDR4 for virtually no performance gain.

No, you cannot purchase GDDR4 unless you are a manufactoring company.

Another question. Do you think there will be any dual GPU cards coming out in the 8 series?
