Therefore, with the NB being stretched to the limit, most instability issues are caused by the northbridge and not the processor / memory. The NB will get very hot during these situations.
  2. Good NB air heatsinks cost the same as good watercooling blocks. If you already have the WC loop, why not spend the same money and get better stability / temperatures / performance?
  3. Northbridge produce anywhere from 15-20 watts stock. This will not significantly affect you watercooling loop, providing it was well designed.
Depending on your current loop. However, it is highly improbable that your loop cannot handle it. A 240mm radiator with good air flow can handle a CPU / NB / video card.
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation.

It was my understanding that unlike the C2D the quad would burn up before any NB issues would be problematic. That is why I was thinking of concentrating my cooling on the cpu. If you say the NB heat output will not substantively affect the loop then as you say the cost is immaterial...other than the intangibles such as another point of risk i.e. leaks.

I've been digging around looking at other ppls results and I really am not sure how successful a water solution even is for this core. The cost isn't onerous which makes it viable but it does add a level of hassle to life e.g pulling out your MB for whatever reason.

Thanks again for the input.
