8800gts 320mb

Thread Starter
I haven't posted here for a while for certain reasons, but I am in extreme need of some help.

I just got an EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB back from RMA on NewEgg. The problem is the card benchmarks at 68xx in 3DMark06. The first one did the same, and I figured it was the card. It is also quite choppy in COD2 Online game play.

Since the second does the same I am wondering if there is a problem with something on my end.

I am using the newest nVidia graphics drivers. My specs are: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe, 2 GB G. Skill HKs, RAID5 with Seagate 7200.10s, Athlon 64 X2 3600+. All speeds are stock. In 3DMark06, my SM2.0 score is 3117, my SM3.0 score is 3301, and my CPU score is 1472.

I am not overclocking anything right now... the current ambient temp in this room is 87°F.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you in advance for help.

Are the sound drivers up to date? I know I have run into problems in the past especially with Creative Labs. Old sound drivers or corrupt ones can cause serious game issues and performance issues in general.

I have seen higher scores with the same equipment. The SM2/3 scores are too low.

I have a Turtle Beach card... they are up to date as far as I know, but I will check again.

Well, it's time to start.

Also, the 320MB maybe part of the reason as well. Most high-end cards (DX9) came with 512MB and they weren't as powerful as the G80, so maybe the RAM is holding the CPU back but then again, even with online playing?

Have you tried newer chispet drivers? That could help.

BTW, my CPU score with a Pentium D 945 @ 4.51ghz is 2209.

CPU seems to be limiting that pretty hard. I get about 8300 3dmarks at stock.

Try submiting it to ORB then comparing your score to similar comp configs, that way you can see if your score really is below average.

after looking at the system, I noticed you are running in the 40's w/o oc, have you checked your temps under a load? That seems hot, and especially hot for the cpu cooler you have. That may have something to do with it, such as the psu not providing enough power (obviously if this is the case it would be faulty), but lack of proper amperage can increase temps.

I think the temps ... which were given in BIOS... are a result of the 90°F ambient... this is why OCing isn't the best option right now. Also, I have never had problems with the PSU.
