Please help me find a new laptop

Thread Starter
I need a new laptop for school and maybe some light gaming (Counter Strike Source)

I went to Circuit City and saw a laptop that looks decent and for a fair price.

Gateway MT3708

Specifications
  • Intel® Pentium Dual Core 1.7GHz, 533MHz, Level 2 cache 1MB
    1GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200)
    120GB 4200RPM Hard Drive
    14.1" Screen Size (1280 x 800)
    256MB Shared Video Memory
    Windows® Vista Home Premium

The thing I like about this laptop is the look, the keyboard, and the "mousepad" (I'm not sure what it's called)

What do you guys think of it? Is it good for the price. If not, would you recommend something else? My budget is <$1,000 before tax. I would like a laptop with a a small screen, preferably around 14", but wouldn't mind something around 15" and a decent/long battery life. I don't care about the operating system but would prefer Vista.

First off I wouldn't buy anything from a store. Instead look on newegg, they tend to have sales on notebooks. Plus things on newegg are way cheaper. I found some that seem to be what you are looking fore and are better in my opinion.

Get XP

You want something bug, or compact.

If you want something compact, I would go with this Dell...

http://www.dell.com/content/products...en&s=dhs&cs=19

It has really good reviews from pretty much every where, and can be configured with 4 GBs of RAM.

Dell makes great laptops, don't be afraid of them just because every here says Dell is terrible.

That's why you'd add 7400 Go as an option.
