Nintendo of America Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication George Harrison boldly predicted sales of more than 35 million Wii consoles in the United States by 2012. More than 2.5 million Wiis have been sold, putting it in second place behind the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console.

Wii sales surpassed Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sales over the past four months. The PlayStation 2 still dominates overall console sales, with more than 38 million sold over seven years. The PS2 outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the month of April.

The Wii is such an amazingly SIMPLE console when compared to the 360 and PS3. After playing one its popularity doesn't surprise me at all. It's genuinely fun. Way to go Nintendo. I used think Nintendo was the next Sega. Not anymore!

Considering that they've sold over 7 million units already, and it hasn't even been 1 year since its release, it's very plausible.

The problem with that figure is that we'll be on the Xbox 1080 and the PS4 by then (assuming that the PS3 doesn't make SONY want to opt out of the console biz). It's been a long ass time since I've since a console last that long. (NES anyone? 1982-1992).

The current gens seem to have a lifespan of around 3-4 years, max.

True, but what's the one exception??

The PS2. It's still selling like hotcakes. I can't remember the year that came out but it's been a while. I'm sure Nintendo will have worked out their next console by 2012, but that doesnt mean the Wii will just go away.

Exactly.
The Wii is far from being done, developer's haven't even tapped it's full ability in gameplay and graphics.

I'm glad I'm a Nintendo Wii owner.
