ill help you out
start you off with a c2d - 225
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003
corsair 620 - 150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139002
Sapphire x2900 - 440
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102095
Asus p5b premium - 230
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131164
now you have $525 to spend on a hard drive, liquid cooling (or air), a case and a cd-rom drive, assuming you have a monitor

Hmm, what is better about the premium that makes it worth $100 over the deluxe? I'd get the deluxe if I were you, I don't see any reason to spend $100 more on the premium, it seems to have pretty much the same board layout as the deluxe.

Definately get the E6600, I'd get a silverstone PSU over a corsair, get one w/ a single rail. This one is good: http://deadeyedata.com/index.php?mai...roducts_id=137

Do you have a preference for Nvidia over ATI?

For hard drives, what do you want, data security or performance? Also, what size monitor are you looking for?
he could do a raid 1+0 or 0+1 which offers both data security and performance

raid 10 or 0+1 with onboard is not as reliable as you think.

Does your budget include the cost of things like monitor / keyboard / mouse / case / DVD drive / Operating system?

If it does, well that changes everything.

If it doesn't:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 $164.50 (free shipping)

Abit AB9 QuadGT $129.99 (after rebate)

2 x 1 GB DDR2-800 Team
(D9GMH) $156 <--- GOOD STUFF!

EVGA 8800GTS 640MB $309.99 (after rebate / free shipping)

2 x WD740ADFD Raptor RAID0 $279.98 (after rebate / free shipping)

----------or 2 x WD740ADFD Raptor $292 (free shipping / no rebate)

DVD Drive $27.99

PC Power and Cooling 750 Silencer
$194.00 <---- GOOD STUFF!

Tuniq Tower
Processor Heatsink $52.50

Total: $1315

Gives to a little wiggle room to add a case / sound card / chipset cooling.

www.performance-pcs.com and www.tankguys.com are great website to find cooling and other products!

Some good MOSFET cooling here! NB cooling here. It is a good idea to replace the stock NB / MOSFET cooling solution.

That is a very decent setup. There is some flexibility in this system yet to make it a bit cheaper. Definitely go with an Intel Core 2 Duo as they are the best performers, as well as cooler and more efficient than the AMD's right now. Also, with the video card, any 8800 series vid card is the better buy right now. That one above is a decent mid-range 8800. To save a bit of money, you could go with the 320mb although they are very closely priced right now. That P182 is a very nice case...cable management is a breeze, and the PSU and HDD's are separated from the rest of the system to help with good cooling. The finish on it is also very sexay I work in the computer industry and have had very good luck with this setup. That mother board is also very good for overclocking...one of the best and rather inexpensive boards to do so...
