Asus C90 Help picking components

Thread Starter
I need help picking components, Ive already researched this laptop a ton (and the retailer) and have decided on this http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant...duct_Code=C90S
Its a pre-order expected by the end of the month.

Im not sure what CPU i should get, the Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe E6420 2.13 GHz 1066FSB 4M: $205 or the Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe E6600 2.4 GHz 1066FSB 4M: $245
I know they charge a bit more then newegg, but im willing to pay the $15 extra

Im also getting the 100GB 7200 rpm HD, the intel wireless b/g/a/n and the Arctic Silver 5 on the CPU. (suggestions please respond)

I will install the RAM myself and i was thinking of this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144063 other suggestions would be appreciated.

Also if you think you could find a better laptop for less then $1700 that would be great also.

well for the cpu i'd step it up to the e6600, but i think u should look for one with a mobile chip ie the t7xxx line, b/c of power consumption/heat.

and for the ram, i presume you arent going to overclock a laptop, so u can just get the cheaper stuff as long as its the right speed.

Ya, those new rigs using the desktops cpu's scare me.. the desktop cpu's aren't rated beyond 60degree celcius. The intel mobile cpu's are good to 100 degrees. And this isn't a fully tested rig yet, and it's exchange only (no refunds), so if it's a pos design, you'll be stuck with it...

But hey, it's your money, it's cutting edge and if it works, it should be quite the screamer. I'd go with the E6600. I'd also look at that 120Gig 7200 hd for only $20 more than your 100gig. Make it up by getting the Corsair ram instead of the Geil. Definately get the 3-yr warranty...

they have a few settings on the laptop like power saving or performance, the powersaving underclocks the cpu so it doesn't heat up as much and saves battery, the performance turns on the 4 fans on the back of the laptop. So i dont think im worried about the temperature problem

also, they say you can practically overclock this laptop a minor oc

hopefully, most laptops with a c2d mobile underclocks itself when its idling to keep temps under control, but under full load, my mobile chip hits 86 celcius! lol

the other thing is battery life will be in the minutes on that lol

sure is fast tho no argument there!!

if u dont plan on taking it too many places then go for it!

Ok, Well I think I'm going to upgrade it to the E6600 and still thinking about the HD. But the Geil ram is a Lifetime warranty so i think im still going to go with it unless you have a better suggestion.

I'm probably going to end up getting this model too. Except the only thing i'm worried about is that retailer. Is there anyway to make sure that site isn't a scam? (just to be safe)

Ha yes, but see I did that research also http://www.resellerratings.com/store...h_Computers_15 59 lifetime ratings and its 10/10, the site seems to have only a few reviews but thats because it makes you input a lot information in order to avoid fraud when you post a review.
