32 bit apps will work fine but not all the drivers are great.

well my main concern at this point, is whether or not there can be any ill effects of my current setup? I'm installing vista next week, but will xp run better than before now that I have an extra 1GB available and am ditching the page file?

Well I think youre not running in dual channel now so it may be a little slower in some ways.

It says it's dual channel in CPU-z.

It'd running in dual channel, don't mind redsox

It's just that 32-bit doesn't recognize more than about 3GB...

And no, not all 32-bit applications work. For instance most of the free antivirus programs aren't compatible with 64-Bit Vista, neither was the Norton 2007 I received, or 3DMark06... And I still haven't found a way to overclock a video card -.-

I'm gunna go back to XP veryyy soon...

Install pro and enable "Excute disable bit" or anything similar in your bios under CPU config section. That enables PAE in XP which will let windows see all 4GB of RAM. Works for me when I tested it, borrowed someone's RAM.

Have you run into 64 bit driver problems yourself?? Because I haven't at all.

I think most people that use x64 Vista have had almost no problems at all in the driver department. Maybe initially there were issues, but nowadays those issues are almost nonexistant.

When I was running x64, mind you this was a whole year ago, I didn't have a single problem finding a driver for any of my hardware. No functionality problems either.

ok x86 windows xp (which is 32bit) will only recongnize max 3 gigs of ram. if you have all 4 sticks in i would remove to 2 gb to make use of the dual channel. i dont think ur running dual channel wid 3 gb of ram.

x64 windows xp on the other hand will go higher i forgot but its more u can get right now. i had x64 window xp pro on my laptop. it worked very well except it did not have my sound drivers, but i did find a substitute driver, got it to work but not very well..

the thing about x64 is finding drivers. if you have a 64 bit cpu and have x64 os with the correct drivers. it will work very well. i've used it before, and i can tell a general performance difference.

but x64 wasn't too popular, so if your going to upgrade, get vista
