4GB of memory, 3GB showing in XP home? - Page 3

**** noobs even if windows show you 3GB hes in dual channel, Dualchannel is a function of the motherboard not of windows, 4x1GB = dual channel even if windows can only map up to 3GB for applications/OS.

If you are going to go to a 64bit OS to fix your ram problem go with Vista. I haven't had a single problem finding any drivers for my hardware in it, and all my software works great. The 64bit XP is no where near as good as the 64bit Vista.

its not actually a waste, because:

1) It's still an extra 1GB of ram for xp
2) I actually bought this stuff for vista on a seperate raid array next week, which I already know gives a large performance boost. I just wanted to know if there was any advantages or disadvantages in xp.

Please explain how the 'extra' 1gig is useful, when the OS doesn't even recognize it.

^^^that sounds like-> 'Braille in the drive-thru', another one of life's great mysteries.
