How do you update Vista?

Thread Starter
My GF has Vista Home Premium and she can't use higher than a 1280x800 resolution on her 19" monitor widescreen, I did a search and apparently she needs an update, but since I'm not on Vista I don't know how to use any of this stuff.

How can she update Vista? I thought Vista like, had some auto update thing or something.

I have the same OS. Vista updates can be done the exact same way as XP updates. Auto DL/install, auto DL/manual install, of manual DL/install. As for the resoultion issue, check microsoft's website to see if there are any optional updates relevant to your/her system. Also check to see if the latest driver is installed for the VGA, or roll it back to see if that solves the problem. I'm not sure exactly what is causing this but its not an issue with my set up, which is pretty much the same.

*EDIT* since vista is so brand spankn' new and all, these sort of bugs are going to randomly happen to different set ups. Until vista can be fully debugged/hacked, don't expect any miracles.

sounds like a driver for either the graphics card or the monitor - both of which are available via windows update.
