Dell is just offering Ubuntu for all those whiny tools that asked for an alternative to Windows but would never even buy a Dell in the first place.
Yeah, I'll be interested to hear how well these end up selling.

At least they picked an easy distro. It's not bad in the looks department, either.

Not everyone is going to like it. It has taken a lot of people I know a long time to get used to XP. Although the GUI is similar, simple things have name changes which will easily confuse your standard PC user.

But good on Dell for opening up to OpenSource. Hopefully no bad programs will be installed on Ubuntu, but you never know.

....I still won't buy or recommend Dell though...

Have Dell put disclaimers saying that a lot of Windows applications won't work?

DONT BUY DELL !! lol , doesn't matter what OS they offer no matter what the only thing worth having from Dell is the monitor, XP is so customizable heck you can have virtual Mac OS skin running through XP, or any other design. What it comes down to is Dell doesn't know what they are doing half the time cause all thier tech support in 3rd world countries can't find the answer in thier question / answer database.
It's because of Dell that my computer knowledge has hit a high learning curve,(ie: when i get a brand spanking new computer, install one game and get BSOD'S due to DLL errors , call them up and get either someone speaking ebonics or someone speaking arabian can't figure out what they are saying and they dont know whats wrong , reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-u9B6nouBo )you gotta figure out how to fix it yourself.
dell's new logo should be Dell School of Learning making you learn computers hand's on one person at a time.

My friend told me that it will cost more to get a dell with ubuntu on it rather than windows. Since windows pays dell or whatever, I don't even know.

Like, when you buy a dell it comes with all those ads with like free trial software junk on it.

Anyone know if it costs more for a ubuntu dell?

Edit: sorry, just saw a post in this thread, I guess they used to be.

It may cost Dell more at the moment, but the customer will pay more for the Windows ones as Windows costs money.

I am sure Dell will put unwanted programs in Ubuntu to make up some more money.

Wow! You can skin XP like OSX?!?
That makes it incredibly customizable cuz that's all you would ever want to customize...

Thread Starter
I don't think it's a bad idea. They are just giving the people what they want. They should provide an easy xp to ubuntu manual. I am using ubuntu on my current machine and love it. It didn't take long for me to figure out things. I think it was harder for me to figure out things when I switched from xp to vista.

That's very funny. People scream that Vista < XP. Just XP with eye candy. You've heard all the quotes.

Oh, and now XP to Ubuntu is easier than XP to Vista.
