Question Regarding OC'ing

Thread Starter
This thread is in regards to troubleshooting instability issues regarding a OC'ed Athlon XP-M (Old, I know!). It has been running @ 200 x 10 for years now with no issues (from 133 x 15) @ 1.45v. However lately the computer has been unstable. The computer randomly locks up (sometimes the sound just locks up, a symptom of OC instability) at any random interval of use. What's odd though is that the system will sometimes go for days without problems and then there will be days like today where it is having issues just booting into Windows. The use per day stays relatively the same.

My primary question is, although i realize CPU lifetimes are shortened by OC'ing, is it possible for a CPU to become unstable "randomly?" Or might it be a different component of the system?

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum for this topic.

How are your temps? Have you opened it up and dusted lately?

most likely got too much dust on the hs and your temps are higher now resulting in instablity.
