It was my understanding that this particular Xeon is basically a server-grade E6600 from a higher speed bin than the standard E6600's...meaning more stability and likely higher clock limits...am I wrong on this?

My thanks to everyone for the input,

Well it seems that either way, 1x GTS is going to perform right around(slightly slower/faster)than 2x XT's, that said, with the master card being a bit higher in price, there is no real savings by going crossfire, so I think I'll prolly just go with the GTS....meh.

BTW.....The bananas have goat skin and we have no ice cream in our potatoes.

Crossfired x1900s beat a single GTS. I'll get the benchies. Personally I'd get the GTS though just cuz you can always SLI them later and that would obviously smoke x19xx crossfire anything.

well, can you can always just SLI the 8800GTS later...

do the xeons offer better overclocking, as they are slightly more expensive?

ElMikeTheMike:

Crossfire X1900's @ 680/1556MHz; E6600 @ 3.508GHz:
3DMark06: 11,830 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=792793
3DMark05: 20,656 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=2208151
3DMark03: 39,259 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4955250
3DMark01: 61,532 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9045279

Single 8800GTS 640MB @675/2210MHz; E6600 @ 3.575GHz:
3DMark06: 12,022 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2027507
3DMark05: 20,081 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=3067749
3DMark03: 41,959 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=5373353
3DMark01: 62,582 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9204096

Since the benchies with the 8800 were run with a marginally higher CPU clock, I'd call it a tie.

X1950CE + X1950XT will beat the single 8800TS, but not by heaps. Given the price of the CE card (which effectively is an XTX), it's not a cost-effective solution.

Pretty mild OC on those 1900's... pretty big OC on that 8800.
