TAT is fine, once you know how it really works. Quadcores have a Tjunction of 100c (not sure if they all have it), meaning you have to take the temp that TAT gives you and take 15c off. If you have a Tjunction of 85c, TAT will read the correct temp.

You can check Tjunction in Coretemp.

This statement is just wrong. TAT reads temps on my Q6600 correctly, it just gives temp spikes that other programs like RMClock and speedfan do not. Speedfan might be what you're thinking of... it reads 15 °C colder as a result of using the incorrect TJunction.
