BF2142 Lag Issues

Thread Starter
I just got BF2142 up and running on Vista, and I get on a server with a friend. My video card wasn't OCed, so I checked my FPS, it was around 60-70 with high settings, that's about where I was in XP.

Then I started getting CRAZY lag. My FPS was dropping below 30, back to 60, then it would settle for a bit in the 50-60 range. ***?

So, I thought maybe I should try OCing my card to see if that helps any, no go. Still got the same issue.

Any ideas?

I'm running Vista Ultimate

When were you lagging? What are your settings? During explosions, my system can lag a bit as well.

Thanks for a valid response

Well, I usually lock my FPS at 60 in BF2142, because that's what I was averaging in XP. I mean, I still get 100fps when no one is around and i'm just standing there, but it drops to a minimum of 60-65 when heavy explosions are going off. That was in XP, with the NGO driver, OCed video card.

NOW: I play just fine for a few minutes, then I start jittering hardcore, check my FPS and it's down at 30ish. This is with lower settings than I was using in XP (AA is lower) and vid card OC. Catch is, I was just podding down off a titan, and it does it very often.

Then the game keeps crashing when I try to enter the menu while in-game. I Ctrl+alt+del and I see a window listed saying "memory error bf. . blah blah" but I dunno why

Any ideas?

And I think I got it. Seems that EAX being enabled and having my sound mixed via hardware = hardcore problems.

I just played a bit in single player, my FPS still drops a whole lot during explosions, but then again I have just reinstalled my video card drivers and haven't optimized them at all.

I'm suprised that you got it running at all in Vista. A buddy that I work with can't get it to run at all. He has a 7950GT. He dual boots XP for BF2142, and all other games I think. I would say keep a partition of XP until Vista gets tolerable for gaming. It may be a while.

keep in mind that if someone near you on the map has high ping, it will cause you to lag, as well.

now i know you get pretty much the same results in single player, but it's just somethin to keep in mind.

I've never experienced that before, but thanks for the heads up.

The main problem wasn't the lag though, it's the fact that the game crashes when I try to get into the menu.

I thought it was sound, but I still get occasional FPS drop and then the game still crashes. I realized I have been playing only in Titan mode though, and people had some problems with Titan mode crashing (xp and vista), so I'm reinstalling the game right now to make sure I'm good.

Edit: And my XP install disk is in the cd tray right now, anything goes wrong, my extra partition is going for XP ^_^
