4600+ Windsor or C2D E4300?

Thread Starter
I'm posting this here because I'm leaning towards the 4600+. I'm building a gaming PC that is going to be a HUGE upgrade from my sempron 2200+/768ram/radeon9800pro. As you'll see, I have a lot to choose from and I can't seem to narrow it down. If you know of any better mobos for the same price post them and I'll take them into consideration.

and

CDrom/dvd burner+
500w PSU
RAM
6600GT OC

Any advice/criticism/input ?

Let me know. I do plan to overclock the processor assuming the stock cooling can cover it till I upgrade to a better cooler.

Thanks.

Well I'd guess Id have to ask first why you're going with a windsor when you can get a newer brisbane for about the same price. I don't know how the windsors OC but the brisbanes are great. my 3600 is at 2.7ghz now

yeah if you do go with AMD, pick up a 65nm Brisbane core above the 90nm Windsors. Anyhow it's a bit of six and two threes - the X2 will be faster at stoick, but the C2D will probably OC up to the same kind of speeds as the X2, and will perform better at those speeds.

If you plan to do a big overclock (by which I mean bringing the Core 2 up 3ghz) then I would go for that

I'd recommend you go with the intel this time. Once overclocked it will destroy anything AMDs have to offer. Remember, this is coming from a dude with 2 AMD setups. That C2D should go to around 3.2 easy, and AMD @ 3.0 does not compare to it.

dont get that mobo, MSI does not make great mobo's at all

go with asus dfi abit gigabyte over the msi, the dfi you had listed before was a great overclocker, there are some asus p5n-e sli boards that are open box or refurbs that also oc pretty good and can do true sli

never mind. that mobo sold out and the price got jacked up to the same as the MSI board. I'm going to go with the MSI board.

ive been reading this thread, and not to get off topic, but im going through the EXACT same thing, i had a 2400+ mobile overclocked 800 mghz on water for years finally it blew up.

so. i was looking at what to rebuild on, AMD, or INTEL, ive been an amd guy for 10+ years.... so.

after looking around for a long while i decided to go with an intel e6600

asus commando board
ocz 2 gigs dual channel ddr2 extreme edition.
bfg 8800 geforce 320 megs ddr3 card
2- 250 gig MD raid edition sata hd's
and a good quiet PS (100+) buks....

is this a good start?

ps, ill adapt all my water cooled stuff to work (minus the video card),(CPU/northbridge water blocks, eheim pump, big rad) and the case its all in.....

i sure hate to defect from amd, but, after looking at all the #'s and the modest price increase.... well? it seemed to me that buying an x2 amd and clocking the **** outta it, its still way behind the c2d.thats really dissipointing. when i got my 2400+ mobile and paired it with the dfi lanparty ultrab board, it was the unit to have....

the E6600 is about $100 more then the E4300 and with water cooling you can easily save yourself the hundred and grab the same speed as the E6600 (better, if the 6600 isn't oc'd) and be well off. if you have the money I'd go ahead and get the E6600 and overclock that bad boy though. : )
