I need some advice

Thread Starter
I am currently running the system you see below in the details!

Now after reading the Bottleneck thread which was very well put together might I add I have a question!

I recently got nvidia to loan me a PNY 8800GTS 320mb PCI-E card wooooot!
Nvidia PartnerForce Member 4TW!

Now I am curious if I get a minimum of 17/FPS on CoH at max graphics with my below setup and just replacing the SLI 6800XT with one 8800GTS 320mb I get a minimum of 27/FPS will I benefit from updating my motherboard to something with true dual 16x pci-e slots while using my SLI 6800XT cards? Or, should I just build a new system and sell my current one?

My goal is at all times to have a minimum of 50FPS at 1280x1024 Res. and max graphics!

Just a note - SLI 6800XT OC'd scored 61781 on AquaMark and 8800GTS 320 OC'd scored 84561

My options are this---

1. Upgrade motherboard and keep all current stuff

2. Upgrade motherboard replace GPU's with SLI 8800GTS 320mb

3. Upgrade motherboard replace GPU's with 8800GTX 768mb

My goal ----

Maintain a constant minimum of 50/FPS while in 1280x1024 at max graphics setting with any game!

wait til you upgrade the full rig mate, wont be worth it really because as soon as you wanna upgrade the CPU, you're gonna have to go AM2, which would mean getting yet another mobo

I've read somewhere that the difference between dual x16 or dual x8 is negligible in benchmarks. Whether there is much difference in gameplay, I am pretty thoroughly in the dark.

So in conclusion you would say sell what I got and build a Core 2 Duo Rig with DDR2 667 Memory and a 8800GTX 768mb GPU then buy the other one later for SLI when the need comes!

But in all honesty my current rig will probably be sufficient for another year or more cause I play online games like CoH, EvE, and WoW!

You can get 2Gb of ddr2 800 for ~$80 at newegg. Other than that, I think you've got it. You might find that the games coming in the next few months make you obsolete w/the current rig. It depends on how badly you want to play the new stuff.

I am neither an amd or Intel fan boy i will go with either but the future is not looking good for amd i need a cpu i can depend on and will stay ahead of the game and right now it looks like Intel is winning by a whole lot!

So, I think ill sell this rig and build me a C2D rig with a single 8800GTX!
