Ubuntu -> FC6

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
When I get home tonite I'm going to switch my system to FC6. THere are a few questions I have. I believe that FC6 uses yum. What's the syntax for installing something and how do you control the repositories.

Also, is it safe to keep my home directory or should I move all my data to another drive and wipe my raptor?

Other than that, what else is going to be different about the system with FC6 on it?

Cuz I want to try out different distros.
Ubuntu isn't failing me in any way but there's probably something I'd be happier with

I wrote an FAQ on basic Yum usage a while ago. (The yum.conf is terribly out of date. so don't use it. Once FC7 is released, I'll redo that entire FAQ.) I'll attatch my yum.conf below if you'd like to look over it.

Of course there are many more repos, those are just the ones I use often enough to keep in yum.conf.

Nice

It looks about the same as apt-get really. I think I'm gonna keep my ubuntu and stick fc6 on another drive once this image downloads

Yeah, most of the package management tools are pretty simmilar. Pacman on Arch is a little bit different, but still the same concept with slightly different syntax.
