A few questions about Vista

Thread Starter
I'll just be quick and to the point:
  1. Is it possible to get a Vista Home Premium upgrade package which is 64 bit
  2. Is driver support for the 64 bit version better nowadays (Nvidia drivers for my card etc)
  3. If I get 64 bit OEM, can I use it to upgrade my current XP to Vista? Or does it just support a clean install?
  4. I have a NVRAID RAID0 array with two seagate barracuda 700.10 hard drives. Will Vista support the RAID0? Will it support Nvidia's NVRAID drivers? If I install Vista on another hard drive, will it still be able to use the RAID array?

Cheers, Snipe

  1. Yes you can. If you cant find it - Get the 32bit version and upgrade to 64 for $10 (Just check the MS Site - I did it)
  2. Yeah, its much better, pretty much only the X-Fi Drivers that need tweaked now
  3. OEM Supports Upgrade and clean - Upgrade saves ALL your files and I find it superb
  4. Know nothing RAID......someone else get this one please

Are you sure about this? Everywhere I've seen says that OEM only supports clean install. Would be great if it supported upgrade as well though.

Also, If I do upgrade, will I have the option to keep XP on my current hard drive and install vista on a new hard drive, so if I need to get on XP at all, I have the choice to boot to either xp or vista?

OEM versions will save all you files into C:/Windows_Old even if you perform a clean install.

2.) Yes. I run x64 Vista Ultimate on my laptop - not a single problem.

3.) As far as I know, you cannot, but I may be mistaken. I think you'll have to do a clean install. But this is what you should do anyway. I havent seen too many people recommend the upgrade option verse clean install.
