Super Computer... please help!

Thread Starter
Once a year I get a new computer of my choice. Budget usually no limit but as long as it's reasonable.

What I'm looking for is a good CPU/MOBO/RAM/STORAGE combo.

The graphic cards I already have 8800 GTX that I will carry on. What I had in mind was this:

CPU: QX6800
MoBo: Asus P5K3
Ram: Corsair PC2-10000
Storage: Either RAID 0 or a really fast HD

What I hope to accomplish is a really fast computer that I can overclock yet still have it run stable. Is there anything I should consider changing? (The casing and cooling is great already so i'm not worried about over heating).

once a year you get a new computer? what? thats crazy!? i could understand if you got New upgrades like a new video card or more ram, or just a cpu upgrade or something, but once a year new computer is crazy talk.

but anyways. intel will have a price cut on july 22, so you might want to wait around for the price cut. As for Hd's go, get some WD raptors. and get some aftermarket cooling. Those quad cores get really hot, if your overclocking you
need something better than the average overclocker heatsink for that quad.

other than that it looks like you know what your doing.

And that's considered a "reasonable" price to spend every year? Are your parents both malpractice lawyers or what?

If you are going for super speed in storage go for 2 raptors in raid 0. and then get a few TB drives for file storage.

If he wants super speed, he'd get 4 of these in a RAID5 array: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822141134

-edit-

OK, at least you have your own job, so Mommy and Daddy aren't paying for it. I was about to get upset.

Why not go for a dual socket 771 setup with, Areca hardware RAID, and that nice little 8800GTX?

Isn't that more server type? Would it be suitable/faster for home use?
