Super Computer... please help! - Page 3

Can you give me an example please? (I tried looking up on google but it seems that going this way makes matching cpu, mobo and ram much harder). Would it be a big improvement over what i originally had in mind? ($4,000 is within the limits)

It also seems much more complicated to set up.
You need ECC RAM for those mobo's. Other than that, there is not really any specific hardware requirements above a 'normal' system.

Question- Do you just want to spend a stupid amount of $$ on a rig, or are you looking for it to DO something in particular? It would help develop the focus of this ranting thread.

Why are sever boards even being mentioned heh, they can't run SLI right?

Just hook him up with a SLI 8800gtx water cooled rig Now that is a super computer!

Also is there much difference in something such as this when running Vista 32-bit or even 64-bit?

+Rep for the great help!
Not sure of your question. Are you saying that when running Vista will you notice the difference between this computer and a high end Dell? Well short of the RAID array (which can be put on any computer) you wouldn't notice much of a difference at all between this build and a $1500 Dell.

However, you asked for a super computer, not a net surfing monster. That is what I provided. This system is quite powerful.

Well, SLI is not desired when asking for a super computer. A high end gaming machine has SLI, a super computer has FLOPs.

Why does he want a super computer, i think that was more of a slang term than a literal term.
