Thread Starter
I would like an opinion or two. Should I get another 7600GT and run in SLI or a single 8600Gt or GTS. I will be runningXP on my signature rig.Don'tplan on getting Vista for a while.Any thoughts?

Well for starters geting another 7600Gt will be cheaper.
If you're not going Vista why even get an 8 series card?
I think Sli 7600 will out perform a single 8600 not sure about the 8800 GTS

IMO go with another 7600. The 9800GTX will be out late "07. Prices will fall hard.

8600GT cards are about $10 to $15 more than a 7600GT, which is not much for a decent performance boost. If you sell your 7600GT also, you could afford an 8600GTS, which would even be better.

the 8600gt can be had for cheap, and overclocks great. Or the gts, which performs a bit better. Then save up for SLI later.

Agreed...and yes, 2x 7600's > 8600 , no question there.

I hate to bump and old topic and am sorry if I make someone mad, but I was just about to ask this exact same question and since 2 people went another way and only one answer...I want to bump this up and see what people think?

You might as well sell your 7600GT and just get an 8600GTS (if you want DX10) or an X1950XT (if you could care less for DX10).

In my opinion, its not worth buying a card (8600GT/S) that isn't so good at DX9, and can't even get out of the single digits in the Call of Juarez DX10 benchmark/demo.

I just finished installing another 7600gt in sli today. It was so easy up untill I had to figure out why the new nvidia control panel wouldn't allow me access to the sli switch. Hint ( classic view only) Switched off mulitple displays and switched on sli. I then ran 3dmark05 and hit 10268. Not bad considering I was thinking about buying either a 8600gts or going head first into a 8800gts. Maybe later.

If anyone knows, how can I overclock both 7600gt GPUs. Right now I can only get a Forceware 90 OC for only the main card. The secondary GPU wont OC or allow any changes in Rivatuner.

10.2k is quite good for 7600GT's. I get 13.4k in 3dmark05. So i'd say unless you can get a cheap 7600GT its quite a debateable upgrade.
