Intel P4 vs. Athlon 64 3000+

Thread Starter
I know x vs. y questions are asked a lot, but I have a specific one, so here goes.

Currently I have an Athlon 64 3000+ NewCastle OC'd to 2.43GHz. Recently, I a acquired a Intel P4 HT 3.0GHz @stock for under $10 (see my thread about CompUSA closing). I don't know which P4 line it is, but it has HT and is skt478. I would like to get some opinions on which to use in my primary rig. By my calculations, I would need to get the P4 to around 3.6GHz to match my Athlon. Has anyone successfully gone past 3.6GHz on a single core P4? The other thing is that I have brought my 3000+ up to 2.53GHz stable with water, around 3.8GHz on the P4. My gut tells me not to shift to the dark side, even if only temporarily. All other parts (except mobo of course) will be the same as in my sig rig. Any input is appreciated.

the Athlon 64 series will own the Intel P4 line, if possible get the 3000+ Venice core which overclock like hell, from around 2.6 ghz to 3.0 ghz. If you have it overclock like that it will murder the P4. Pentium 4 HT technology is crap. Hope this help ya.

Stick With the A64, the P4 need ridiculously high clocks to match the performance of that A64.

Athlon 64 whooped the P4 ass. Stock vs stock and oc'd you need to double, sometimes triple to = the score of a good 64

Stick with AMD in your case!
