Noob problem - Page 4

Well I think I was trying to put it on backwards. I did try turning it around before, but I was still having difficulty because it was really awkward trying to get my fingers down there. Its not like I have overly large hands or anything, but its how the processor is positioned. I was able to get it to clamp down finally on the clip, but now its on backwards. I am actually feeling a bit nervous about it because I can't get it off now and I am afraid I might break something off. I am going to continue to try, but it is worrying me because I don't want to have to buy a new motherboard. I am hoping that if I do have to break that plastic peice, that ASUS might be able to offer me a replacement peice. Its just a plastic peice that screws into the motherboard.

lol......it goes from bad to worse. Well I guess this is part of the learning experience. I just hope its not an expensive mistake. I can't afford another motherboard at this moment.

Sometimes it's necessary to use more brute force than you instinctively think is necessary to fit an aftermarket HSF. Heck, when I was a freshly-minted newbie (last year) I was a little hesitant with my very first HSF installation, and it was with the stock AMD cooler!

These things are more resilient than you might think. The only thing I would watch out for is the positioning of capacitors around the socket. If you're not too careful, you can easily take one out, and that'd be a costly mistake. But just muscle it a bit.

Even high-end HSFs like Thermalrights sometimes need a ton of brute force when you're clipping these on to the retention module. Their S-clips for the SI-128/Ultra 120, for sure, probably required the most brute force to install, in my experience.

Hope this helps!

I should have simply gone to bed. I was incredibly tired, but I just wanted to at least get the fan on before I went to bed. I was so excited to finally get everything to put this computer toghether. Anyway I finally gave up and went to bed. The next morning I looked at it and felt incredibly stupid. I hadn't seated it properly and it wouldn't lock...lol. Anyway thankyou so much for the help that was offered. I really appreciate everyone being so willing to help.
