DX9 v DX10 Crysis footage - Page 2

Isn't DX10 supposed to be more optimized than DX9? I heard that a while ago when they were working on it and Vista.

From the hunter one, there wasn't too much difference. Basically could handle more objects with "better" textures. Explosions were slightly better.

The jungle demo was a little more defined. Other than looking like 2d paper cut outs for both of them (did you notice that?), the dx10 one was much better in terms of object interaction and textures.

I have to state that this is pretty old footage and it's most likely that a lot has changed since.

To be honest, DX10 in the Hunter video made it look more cartoonish (wrt the rain drops hitting surfaces). Flames seemed better, though that was pretty much the only thing I could notice.

The Jungle video was more defined, though I can't honestly say that with all the hype that I'm not disappointed by it. I didn't care much for the motion blur--I think it's annoying. Granted it is nicer all-around, though if I were in the market for a video card right now, I can't say that this preview would convince me to spend hundreds on a good DX10 card. The game looks great, though I could care less (at this point) about the difference between DX9 and DX10 play.

It's much like COD2--the difference between DX7 and DX9 could be seen wrt insignificant eyecandy, but really didn't make a whole lot of difference in gameplay. I know, eyecandy makes it all look great, but I think the video card market has to change in order for mass numbers of people to want to move to DX10 cards. It's not that worth it at this point (IMHO, and I know everyone's opinion is different), though DX10 is still in infancy. We should give it a bit before making a final decision.

On a separate note, does anyone know whether CF'ing another x1950pro 256mb card will really matter in Crysis if playing at 1280x1024? I haven't found much literature on it yet.

OK so in DX10 I'm paying for motion blur? Thats the only difference I could see

I hope they fix the stupid blood effects in the final version

There is a problem with that. If your video card starts significantly affecting gameplay, you will need to REQUIRE the advanced hardware. Not everyone can afford to keep upgrading their hardware. If this affects gameplay rather than graphics, instead of buying your game and toning down the graphics, they won't buy it because their system can't run the game well enough.

Just think of it from the game developer's shoes. They want to sell their game to as many people as possible. Making the graphics scalable allows everyone to play the same core 'game', but have it look better or worse depending on your hardware. Having the game be more fun/interactive because you have more expensive hardware is treading dangerous waters though...

There hasn't really been much on this, but that's a pretty low resolution so I doubt it's worth it to crossfire. And even if it did, you certainly won't need that horsepower until Crysis, so you would be best off putting off your upgrade (And be better off buying a DX10 card instead IMO).

As for the video, I really liked the lighting differences as well as the fire/smoke (particles?) that made it look a lot more realistic.

possibly, not taking ac milan and chelsea into account.

dx10 is wwaaaayy better looking. most dx9 fps's kinda look the same (crysis dx9 reminded me a bit of bf2) the shading, lighting, detail and blur in dx10 is like no other game, but the dx9 version isnt dissimilar to what weve got
