Asus P5N-E vs MSI P6n Platinum

Thread Starter
Hey guys...I'm looking to purchase a new board from newegg and they have some really good open box deals. I really want a 650i chipset just becuase they are "IN" kind of.

The MSI P6N Plat is only $113 open box and I love the look of it.

However the P5N-E is even cheaper at 88 bucks open box. I don't have very much money at all and I will be purchasing one in a few weeks as long as one is still there. My real question is besides the heatpipes and things on the Platinum are there any real differences between them and should I spend the extra cash?

I mean I love the look and heatpipes look sick and the Platinum is kind of my dream board almost right now. However I don't want to waste money and if there aren't any real differences then the P5N-E would be best for me then?

Yes open box but in working condition. I want an open box becuase the P5N-E is 88 bucks and the P6N Plat is 112 bucks both open box.

Open boxes can be a gamble but they should work just fine.

I know that most would get the P5N-E but I was looking for more reasons of why the P5N-E is better than the Platinum

I like Asus but it's just the fact that the MSI is the platinum version and has heatpipes and whatnot. I figured the cooling on the platinum would be worth the extra 25 bucks. One more question. I want to add one of these

Will both board take one of those? it's for the NB but the Asus NB looks a bit weird.

Yeah it'll work on both boards. I would buy the P5n and get an HR-05 or something

I don't really think that I will need an HR-05. I know it runs a bit hot but with that cheap CM HS/F it should keep my temps low enough for what I'm doing.

I just want at least 3.0ghz on my E6300 becuase thats what my 965PT can reach. However the higher the better heh.

EDIT: Plus my case has a Blue LED accent to it and that chipset cooler would look steezy

I'll consider a little bit more over which to get but I just figured that the Platinum version would be better than the standard P5N-E becuase of the heatpipes.

the money u save on the p5n-e sli, u could get some better cooling, definetly hs/f on northbridge, and a hs on southbridge, asus all the way, great board, great overclocker

I think that's what I will do. I will just a plain P5N-E and add one these. Like I said I don't need any serious overclocks I just want at least 3.0ghz.

The Coolermaster Blue Ice should be all I need for the NB. Do I need anything for the SB? Liek I said just get me under like 55 temps and I don't care hah.

Something cheap and all of them say Northbridge except for this cheap one right here.
