Quadcore and Orthos...

How many instances should I run it with? 4, one on each core? Or is there a better way to do it?

I got the same results running 4 different instances and using CPU affinity (task manager, rightclick on the on in question) one for each core as I did by using only 2 instances and allowing them to share a core. Try it both ways and let us know.

What are your load temps @ 3.2 GHz and is that 8x400? Also, what vcore are you using? I found that 9x333 on my q6600 will run on a vcore (BIOS) of 1.3250V and give load temps like this:
Code:
Core0 58 °C
Core1 59 °C
Core2 54 °C
Core3 56 °C
Room temp is a toasty 74 °F at the moment
You might wanna use RMClock to measure you coretemps since TAT doesn't give very tight data and Speedfan is off by 15 °C on quads (reports it too low).

I'm running 9x355 on 1.325v... My temps are outrageous though;

IDLE at 46... Load at, sometimes, ~72. I'm adding 2 more 120mm fans, and I might try to reseat the HS. That's insane in my opinion. Or maybe I'm just not used to the quads yet.

I load at 69C with 4x small FFT tests. (Idle at 39c)

Your temp is right, quad core is hot.. However I would stay below 70C. (The stock cooler on the QX6700 runs it at around 72C on load, so I figure the Q6600 can handle up to around 70C as well.)

BTW, I'm using 1.356v and am at 3.2Ghz.

You need to reseat your HSF.

AS5 Line Across method, and don't use too much. I had the same issue as you did when I first did it.

Murlocke is at a higher OC than I am. I'm just now finding a stable point with my 3.2ghz so I'll report back soon.

But @ 3.0ghz (my sig needs to be updated) I'm now at 3.125v and my Load temps are 55c/56c in TaT. I think you should try reseating ifyou didn't use the line-across method.

Alright, there's hope for me yet. I ran two instances with affinity and I ended up at 43/62, but the AS hasn't set yet I'm sure, and when it does I'm hoping for another couple degrees. With 4 instances on small FFTs I reached 74. So... Is this a little more acceptable?

I think any temp over the specs from intel of 62 °C is pushing it if you want to keep the PC running for years to come. I'd drop your o/c to 9x333 if the temps are better... I'm 9x333 @ 1.3250V now and my hottest core hits 61 °C when the room temp is 78 °F. When you think about it, 3.0 GHz and 3.2 GHz are more or less the same; you're talking about <7 % increase which isn't worth it in my book if it puts your temps over the redline... then again, if you don't care about keeping it for a long time, f*ck it, clock it up to 3.6 GHz if you're stable and run the vcore as high as you need to do it.

I'm gonna try reseating it too, but hopefully even if it is over redline a bit, it'll last for a couple years. That's all I want. I have Bleeding Edge Syndrome, so I'm gonna TRY my best to keep it, but 1 year is stretching it in my mind, lol. Just barely (Alright, give or take half a dozen degrees C) past the mark isn't gonna cut me short too much, do you think?

I mean... It hasn't caught fire or randomly shut off on me at least, eh?
