THanks, AMD.

Are you not running Orthos Stress test x 2: 2 cpus for each Orthos? You said depending on which core.

Thanks for the great info! I've been sittin' here tryin' to stabilizer 401 x 8 for the last hour and can't get it to chug beyond 10 minutes. Sometimes the PC just resets, others I get red flagged.

Gonna try going back to a 9 x after this one time to see if I can stabilize 356 or so.

Yeah I'm running 2 instances of Orthos with affinity set accordingly, what I meant by depending on which core was that they all run at different temps. Core0 is usually 5C higher than core3. Ironically the cores that run hotter fail Orthos far less frequently then the cooler cores.

If Orthos is rebooting I think that means your NB or RAM is what is unstable, try loosening you timings, or a little more voltage to the MCH.

Damn man those are some awesome temps! That's what watercooling is supposed to be like.

I m anaged to surpass the 6-minute mark in Orthos just now. Temps lookin like 63c, though, and I'm not too keen on that. I think I'll have to wait til the rest of my air cooling comes in or settle for something like 3.0ghz and 1100-1200 DDR2. =(

Congrats on great stable temps, dude. 52c on that Q66 is amazing.

did u try increasasing ur northbridge vcore and ur front side termination voltage? from what i understand if increasing vcore isnt helping u stabilize and ur still getting fatal errors in orthos either of these two can help.

Unfortunately, I found a stable OC with my board and the temps were TOO high. I think this might be a limitation of the board, and not the Quad.

So, until the rest of my NewEgg order comes in (... cooling. ATI X1950XT, 2gb of Ram) I'll be sitting pretty at 3.0ghz.

Thanks you two for help!

A 3.0 GHz quad is noting to scoff at.

Did I read your post right, you were able to get 3.2 stable? If so I bet when you get your new cooling (what did you order?) you'll be able to keep it there with reasonable temps.

Oh how I wish it was winter (never thought I'd say that!), I'd stick my radiator out the window and see what I could get with some serious voltages!

What are your guys steppings? Mine is L640F with a stock voltage of 1.265v. This might help us establish a baseline for what to expect. I'm think that stock voltages for Q6600's range from about 1.200v to 1.300v or so.

Yeah I got it to stabilize but the temps were depressing. 65c - 66c load really wasn't what I was expecting! And I needed like 1.4v to stabilize.

My cooling consists of mad case fans and Northbridge cooling. I'm hoping that'll drop me to about 62c, and if so then I'll have no problem riding a 3.2ghz Daily OC.

L644G101 here. max 1.35v, stock is like 1.3 I believe.

Your Stepping might actually be better than my own.

65 - 66C isn't that bad, it wont hurt the chip until about 80c core or 63c Tcase I think. I've found some good info from an Intel PDF, give me a few minutes and I'll link it. There's a lot of technical jargon but a few pices of gold.

I unplugged two of my radiator fans to simulate really high ambients, and was peaking at 67C, but like you felt a little uncomfortable with that and quickly plugged one fan back in!

I am also running at 1.4 Vcore, I found 1.3875v stable but bumped it up one just to be safe, as I run this 24/7 loaded 100%.

Just for fun, if you've got the time see how little Vcore you can get it to run at stock frequency. I got it stable as low as 1.200v but got tired of lowering the voltage and started to bump up the FSB and got it Orthos 3h+stable at 2700 MHz @ 1.200v!

Way to go getting 3.2 stable! Are you at 400 x 8 or 356 x 9? What were your other voltages at?

It was 356 x 9

+0.2 MCH
+0.2 FSb

1.4000vCore

I will try to get better temps when the NorthBridge and case cooling gets here. I agree, it needs to be super stable for me as well. The first time that my system crashes during a video encode will be the last time I run an oVerclock; mark my words. LOL

LOL!!

Yeah I lost a few work units because I thought it was stable when in fact it wasn't.

How long does the average encode take? No one likes to loose work, especially when it matters like in your case. I just loose some credit (points), no real harm done, just annoying.

Here's that PDF from Intel:

http://download.intel.com/design/pro...x/31559402.pdf

Quickly scan through the whole thing if you have time, but of interest are sections 2.2 and section 3.
