Armor: Top mount a 120mm exhaust + Dusting = Anxiety Attack

Shwew.

Seeing my rig with cables all over my bedroom just sort of makes me anxious.

I run just about all my Armor case fans as intake; reason being ... the whole case is perforated (full of holes!) and so negative pressure is almost impossible to acheive; also, thorough testing has shown that my temps are better with only the rear 92mm exhaust and a single 120mm top exhaust.

The main rear 120mm, which is traditionally used as an exhaust is flipped around to become an intake which blows room air straight into the Infinity cooler (which is dual fan, push > < push, btw ... another configuration which has tested about two degrees better than the typical dual fan setup).

Anyway ... today I added the 120mm top exhaust fan ... as well as dusted the entire system ... and boy, was it a mess:

...

Oh, ... the pain ...

...

OH! THE P A I N!!

...

Finally got the 120mm zipped in place:

...

Removed the plastic 'ground effects' to allow better flow:

...

Finally, managed to get all my ribbon cables and otherwise, at least somewhat tamed:

...

With some expense and a day or so, I could clean it up a lot more, but it's a 24/7 work rig and so not to fussy about bling.

Otherwise ... MAN does dusting make a difference in temps or what!?

This 6400 @ 3.5ghz, in a 24C room, went from idling at 40C to idling at 37C ... system's been running about 40mins now and no change.

Anyway ... may have something to do with the larger (more quiet!) top exhaust fan ... but most likely a result of the dusting.

Big fun ...

This summer, i'm going to cut the top off and make it ALL perforated! i already have the plastic off, but i have the 90mm fan on. I can't wait. You know what? i'm going to do some better cable management this week. My case looks horrible compared to yours. And what is the total change in temps you saw from normal setup,to your all intake, exhaust on top?

Cable management on this particular machine is a superb pain in the arse. Every PCI slot is full and two of those have ribbon cables that run to the front of the case (5.25" bay boxes, etc.).

Technically speaking, I've got two exhausts ... the rest intake; here's a diagram:

...

...

Over the standard Armor config, I dropped my cpu idle/load temps about 3 degrees with this configuration.

Cable management is such a pain in the arse.

...

(BTW ... how bout that flash flood we got earlier, eh?)

Nice. I may do that because that actually works pretty well with my BT in theory. Do you like the armor's fan holder for the back 120? I hate it. I took it out once and it was a total PITA. Took me forever. I was about to just screw it on the holes. I need a 120 to go on top though.

And that was some crazy rain. This one lightning bolt hit and the thunder shook the entire house, and it wasn't that loud but it was deep and powerful.

I *never* take the back 120mm fan holder out; I only take the fan out (best to slide it upwards and out of the fan holder.

The one single time (first and only) I tried to actually remove the back 120mm fan holder ... my right index finger bled for half an hour.
