Suggest me a case to mod. :D

Not gunna completely mod the hell out of it - probably just paint it inside and out, throw some LED fans and cathodes in, and be done.

I'm really picky about cases (which would explain my current "case" ) and theres a lot of "guidelines" for picking me a case. Lucky you. But I do rep. Just don't tell the mods that I'm giving rep, or I'll like, get yelled at or something and I'll cry.

Guidelines:
  • Windowed. No non-window cases.
  • NOTHING on the window. Not etches, no "built in" grills for fans, etc. Fan spots are perfectly fine, I just don't like when they cut a "grill" into the window. It looks ugly and I don't like it.
  • Case color doesn't matter since I'm just going to paint it (black on the inside, green or red fading to black on the outside probably) but black is better if there is a choice of default color incase I stick "stock" for a while.
  • I don't want 80mm fans. One on the top or one on the side, but I hate 'em. Hard to find anything over 40CFM that doesn't make your ears bleed. Want at least one 120mm intake and at least one 120mm exhaust.
  • Tool-less internal 3.5 bays are very much wanted, and I really really like the ones that you can look in the case and you see the hard drive longways. (The long size spans from side panel to side panel instead of from front panel to 3.5" in the case)
  • Needs to fit water cooling stuffs.
  • Server/Full-ATX is great. As long as it'll fit a lot of hard drives and water cooling, it'll work. Which really isn't possible on MidATX anyway.
  • Built in temperature monitors are great. Just make it blue or none at all. Don't want to no funky pink ****.
  • I wanna see as much as I can in the case - I just don't like windows where you see the sides of the 5.25 bays - who wants to see that? If you can see it, it's fine, just would rather not.
  • BIG!
  • PSU on the bottom isn't really wanted, but no biggie if it is.
  • Hard part is.........under $125.

Cases I can tell you straight up NO to:
  1. Antec P180 (No window. Windowed on is too much. Not that great looking anyway.)
  2. Thermaltake Armor.
  3. Gigabyte Aurua. It's a sexy case, fully aware of it. Don't suggest it because if you can't show me something better, this is what I'm gunna get.
  4. Chenming 601 - I got the 301 version (MidATX version) and it's not that great.

BTW, horrible photoshop, but this the paintjob I'm thinking of doing:

This is a nice Chenming Full-tower case. It does not meet some of your requirements as it looks like the fan-mounting points are for the 80mm variety.
The two on the rear might be capable of maintaining a balance of ventilation with a 120mm fan-mod to the front drive bays. Something like this.

If that is too ugly for you, maybe something like This.

That one has a 120mm aperture on the backside, and the lower set of panels on the front could provide a 120mm fan (same as the previous example). Might work out well as it looks that configuration would provide a straight-through airflow current.

Anyhoo... just some ramblin'

The only Chenming with a window is the 601 - I have the 301 holding a certain someones P3 () and the 601 is just a bigger version of the 301...nothing against it, just want some variety.

Also, the windowed version of the Apevia is just shy of $150 - and it's just a 601 with sexy fans with an optional PSU thrown in.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

And is that case with the mod in the bays yours? Looks a lot like a 301...but...different. O.o

If I were you I'd get the Lian-Li PC-7B from Performance PC's. It comes stock with a windowed panel for only $95, you can flip the hard drive cage 90 degrees so you can see the hard drives longways, the window is pretty big, and the power supply mounts on the top.

Unfortunately, however, without making your own case or spending more than $125, you'll probably be out of luck.

EDIT: Here's the link for the PC-7B:

Only thing I'm worried about with Lian Li cases are the fact that the MidATX cases really are MidATX - not to forgiving for the water cooling crowd from what I'm hearing.

I do remember seeing a bunch of watercooled PC-7B's but now when finding them could actually help I can't find them.

If I do, I'll be sure to post 'em.
