Ultra 120 extreme arrived today

So I got the heatsink and a Scythe s-flex fan. Unfortunately everything else wont be here till Tuesday at least due to memorial day. Base looks slightly convex so I am expecting some lapping to have to be done eventually. Has anyone here actually had a hassle-free experience with this cooler? Seems like it either needs to be lapped or the 775 bracket is too loose and needs modding.

People say that the cooler slides around a bit on LGA775 sockets so you might want to do a mod to it. There is one listed at anadatech in the cooling section of their forums, go check it out ;D.

Yeah I saw that one but someone suggested an easier fix where you take out the springs on the screws and slide in 0.1'' spacers to apply more pressure when you screw them in.

illustrated would be something like /\\/\\/\\/ [] ----|

basically going spring, spacer, bare screw

Do it now dude, you won't regret it. Also lap your IHS.

I have the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and the cooler is also sliding around for me. I might go with the spacer idea though.
