1900gt or the 7900gs? - Page 3

My 7900gs xt sucks, as at even 1.5v with a darn good cooler (it is running at 45 C) I can only get the core to 677, and mem at 835. It is a poor overclock, especially for volt mod, but I still get decent scores.......

No, 600 on the core is a safe bet under stock conditions; 700-750 with voltmod.
Yes exactly I meant a Core/Mem ratio. On average 600-620 Core and 800-850 memory no volt mod.

I bought an HIS x1900gt (unmodded) from one of the forum members and it runs at 528 core/847 mem. I believe that it is rev 2, but I'm not positive. I get about 140 fps on CS:S with high settings (resolution at 1600x1200). If I were you, I'd try to purchase a used card from someone upgrading on the forum. Good luck with whatever you decide.

wow... the 7900GS KO was about 100$ less expensive then the 1900GT up here in Canada.. thats why I went with Nvidia instead of ATI.

I over clocked the ***** out of my 7900, I did the volt mod at 1.55v (stock is 1.2v) it was very simple to do and I then modified my stock P4 heat sink to fit on my GPU so I wouldnt' have to buy an aftermarket heat sink.

You'll have way more fun with the GS

7900GS = x1950 pro

an x1950pro DESTROYS an x1900GT

Get the dirt-cheap overclockable runs-cool-on-stock eVGA 7900GS. Trust me. Its a very popular card. You WILL hit 585/800 without breaking a sweat, and will probably hit something closer to sora's clock, with 600/850.

However, that one BFG 7950 that highwhey posted is one hell of a steal, you might one to jump on that deal.

And don't let people convince you that 50mhz on a core = 1/2 fps. It really means much more than that.

Not to mention eVGA allows step up and all those other goodies.

7900GS is pretty much the best graphics card of all time.

If by destroys, you mean about 7% better.

And for the record, the 6800GS is the best graphics card of all time

The x1950pro is between the 7900gs and the 7950gt. Most reviews have it trading blows (the x1950pro) with the 7900gt.
The x1950pro is a crappy overclocker, but its performance is already stellar. If you want to overclock get a x1950gt, since that card will OC to the same levels as the pro version.
A 7900gs to be appealing right now would have to be at the $100-130 range, and there it should be competing with the x1900gt. Between those I would get the 7900gs since it overclocks a bit more. At $140-160 the x1950pro/gt is your best choice, but if you can find a 7950gt for that price it obviously would be a better choice (the 7950gt). Higher than that and you may as well get a x1950xt ($200).
