No 8800GTX for me :( - Page 3

Dude, one word of advice. Don't get another DX9 card, you just sold one of the best that there is.....why would you want another one?

A GTX would be nice, but if you can't afford it then don't loose any sleep over it.

Get a GTS and if you have any money in the next 3 months you can step up.

But by then you will realise that the GTS is plentyful and you won't require an upgrade

GTS all the way.

Surely you could wash some neighbours cars or mow their lawns for $20. If I really wanted to I could get that in an hour or two.

If you're going to get an 8800GTS, definetely get the 640MB version. The 320MB of texture memory will fail later in life when games require more and more texture memory.
I mean, look at Quake 4 now - to run that on Ultra settings you need 512MB of Video texture memory.
With the new DX10 games coming out looking better than ever, they're definetely going to want more juice from the VRAM.

I'm still wondering why you unloaded a perfectly good card that likely ran every game on your monitor at max settings without a new card already on order or better yet, in your hands.

My friend has pretty similar setup to mine...

Mine:
E6600@3.5
P5N-E SLi
DDR2-900 CAS4
XFX 320Mb 8800GTS XXX

Friends:
E6600@3.5
Striker Extreme
DDR2-900 CAS4
XFX 768MB 8800GTX XXX

I score 10888 on 3DMark06, he scores.. 11888. Tbh, the differance isn't worth the extra money. GTS FTW tbh, 640's/768's will give you better performance in higher resolutions. But to be perfectly honest, the 320mb 8800 will suit you and your wallet atm just fine. Untill more beefier cards come out, the XFX XXX version even out performs/is on par with some 640 versions upto a certain res 1900xXXXX can't quite remember now.

lol... thats funny... i haven't washed a car or mowed a lawn for some one else in years... I'm in my 2nd year of collage. Its getting to the point where I'm not sure if i have the time to deal with it anymore so I'm taking as many credits as the school will let me... so a job right this second isn't a real possibility at the moment...

and so... from what people have been saying in this thread, I'm thinking a 8800GTS 320mb from evga would work just fine... I'm sure i could do a step up to a GTX within 3 months if i felt that i really needed one...

im eyeballing this card...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130040

or this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071

there is only a $20 difference in these two cards... one has 320mb ram and the other one has 640mb ram...

Am i going to see that much of a difference in performance between these two cards?

the 320mb has higher clocks and the 640mb has twice the ram... I'm sure i could oc the 640mb but to the speeds of the 320mb listed????

It only has to be a one off. If I was desperate for some money I would but I have a proper job so I don't need to.

My Grandad does odd jobs around peoples houses and gardens and he is 82. Over the year he is getting around the same amount of money as me.

Definately the 640mb, then you can upgrade to GTX if you feel you need to within 3 mo's (and you wont ). Like a couple have said regaurdless of the 320mb running DX9 games good this is about DX10 obviously, plus you came from a 7900 GTX so you will definately notice the loss in memory. The 640mb is going to be a good jump for you and if you get the 320mb, although you could step up - for $20 more & double the memory save yourself the headache and buy a 640mb now!

Definitely get the 8800gts 640mb for $319 after rebate, that is a no brainer. At that price you just can't go wrong. And you also have 3 months to decide if you want to step up to a gtx.
