To get the average "Intel Clock Speed" for an Athlon, roughly multiply its current clock by 1.5. This means that the Athlon has roughly 3.5Ghz of Intel-equivalent power, meaning it beats the Intel hands down
You did your math wrong... 2x1.5 is 3, not 3.5

So they're roughly equivalent in stock clock speed, but the P4 has 1mb of L2 cache rather than 512kb.

Its the same as the 5000+ at stock, but has unlocked multi's so you can squeeze a few mhz out of it
mine is OCd to 2.8 ghz
wow that makes it a p4 4.2 ghz. I thought it was like a p4 3.4 would have never known if I didn't surf this site. u guys are awesome
post #24 of 30
same formula 2.8 * 9 / 6 = P4 4200 mhz

that formula is correct, but that would be if AMD and Intel had the same architecture, an Athlon can get more done on the equivalent clock than a P4 because the Athlon has a better Architecture, and same for C2D

thats a very coarse general formula. Its fairly accurate though

here's a better comparison imo, takin from the Super Pi 1m times

-Jeppe- 27.954s DFI nF4 Expert / 148 Opteron @ 3000 MHz / 2-2-2-5 1T (5:6) / Big Typhoon
gtpuser 27.968s / Gigabyte GA-G1975x Turbo / Pentium D 930 @ 4.67 Ghz / 4-4-4-8 / BT

and here's the fastest P4 time

busa 28.454s / Asus P5ND2-Sli deluxe / P4 660 @ 4626 / 3-3-3-7 (3:2) / Swiftech H20 Storm

and the best 3200

The Jester 25.602s /Athlon64 3200@2.7, 2.5-3-3-5 DDR400@333(Divider) , Abit Ax8 v1, Big Typhoon

the AMD wins by 3 seconds, and is clocked almost 2Ghz behind

Using the 6:9 ratio, that 3200 at 2700 is only equal to 4050 PD/P4. So, if it was all ops/cycle, the P4 should have outperformed the 3200, which it didn't. Architecture FTW!
