Reseat the cpu cooler? When over clocking does your machine like what shoot up to 100% CPU useage? is that why the cooling is so mandatory? In all honesty I dont feel like tearing open my case and messing with the mb and all that crap again the cooler is the stock one from the Core2quad box its big and bulky right now were at 67 67 62 62 but for now if you guys think OC my machine is dangerous ill just hold off until I get some better cool ****.

And if your talking about reseating the cpu cooler it has the 4 lil plugs you push down on it and the lil gummy **** is just there I didnt add anything like that I pulled my parts out of the box and plugged em in =(

Also about the ram is it true the ram I have Over Clocks it self when put into the 680i? And does 4 gigs actually get used on my machine sense its only showing 2.75 in the system info.

Ah your using stock cooling. Well you shouldn't expect good temps. But you should at least get normal temps.

Quote:
100% cpu useage there around 61 61 58 58 Im good now right =)?
Quote:
right now were at 67 67 62 62
Too high, i wouldn't even be running any intensive applications with those temps.

Also you haven't overclocked right? If so then def try to reseat it. The stock intel coolers don't require you to tear out the mobo or anything, you just pop it out with the twist things and put it back on.
Although i don't know what exactly you will do, since you don't have any more thermal paste.
Just make sure it is getting good contact.

It's pretty hard to screw up installing a intel cooler, so maybe you really do need after market cooling..

Overclocking needs good cooling because when you increase the frequency of your CPU, it needs more voltage to run stable. More voltage = more heat.

I didn't read this whole thread...kinda skimmed through it...beer thirty and all...

Thought I'd share this with the OP...

Never heard of a mobo automatically overclocking your ram... Download CPU-Z and check what speed your ram is running out, then you will know for sure. Too lazy to get the link, find it yourself, google ftw.

You have a decent idle temp, just monitor your temps every once and a while during your gaming.

One of the, if not the best air cooler is the Thermalright ultra 120 extreme.

Peltier can get pretty low temps, but not sure how those perform on quad cores

Watercooling can do wonders for a quad... But you would need to go custom, about $250.

Then if you really want some crazy temps, you can buy a premade phase unit for around $500 or so, and get negative temps

Go post in the cooling section if your needing cooling help

Lol well ill see about the 250$ one first off then if I find i enjoy over clocking and see good results Ill go for the 500$ one. Thanks for all the help man and about the other ram issue lol... I have 4 gigs on windows XP it shows 2.75 in the SYSTEM thing in control panel now does it only SHOW 2.75 but uses all 4 gigs or it just caps at 2.75?

Windows xp can only use 2.75gb of ram. Vista 64 bit is the one that can use 4gb.

can't see the screen shot, it is way to small.

The Frequency says 400Mhz?

That = 800MHz effective speed, hence the 2 in DDR2

Sooo your FSB = 267 and ram = 400MHz

So that's a 2:3 ratio.
1:1 would do it just fine, i think your ram is overkill, you would have been fine with ddr2 800mhz. Especially with that 9x multiplier.

If you wanted to run at 1066mhz you could change that in the bios, but then you would be at 1:2 ratio, running your ram faster than your FSB generally doesn't improve performance. Except in some programs like FAH... and maybe some other stuff...

Lamens terms does that mean My ram is extremely good and im crazy for buying that much ?

And 1:1 2:3 that is what? Come on here ima nub at this crap =(

EDIT: I like your case dez how did you get it so clean looking? I have wires out the ass in mine =( and cant seem to clean em up at all

You went overboard yeah. Coulda saved some money

1:1 is the desired ratio, FSB : RAM

FSB for you = 1066 / 4 = 266.5
RAM = 800 / 2 = 400

Your ratio = 266.5 : 400 = 2:3

Like i said 1:1 is about the perfect way to go, when your ram is running faster than your FSB you generally don't see improved performance, except with select apps..
