do you think i would like gears of war?

Thread Starter
so i bought an xbox about a month ago after not having a console (cept my genesis) since 1999 when i got hooked on the original halflife multi player. since then i've been a huge fan of FPS games on the pc. So when i bought my xbox i though i would get call of duty 2. This shed a lot of light as to what i don't like about consoles. i just can't get into a FPS game when i'm using a noob stick vs a good old mouse and keyboard. So this kinda turned me off to alot of games on the xbox, i realized i loved the xbox for racing games, sports, and a bit slower paced game like GTA SA but i hear so much about GOW. So my question is... if i dont' really like 1st/3rd person games due to the controls in general, is GOW so good that i can get over my dislike of using a controler and actually really find this game enjoyable, just a note i don't' have live and only play the xbox for single player games or with my friends but i save my online play for the pc.

It's good. It is good enough imo that it bridges the gap. Rent it first and then buy when you realize it's that good.

yeah rent it first.. i think its a POS.. it has good GFX and everyone goes "OMG HAX! U BUY NOW"

i played it and its not that great. but you might like it.. i like a game with an objective not just "ok u kill him and u win"

Yeah, because the multitude of online games have an objective other than "kill the opposing team."

However, if you don't have Live, you're missing half the experience of most 360 games anyway. Gears has an awesome single player in my opinion. It's short yet immersive but rent it first to see if you like it. You can easily finish the game on all difficulty levels before you have to turn it back in.

But like I said, Live is half the experience. The multiplayer is awesome. I play it nonstop. If you are only playing for single player then you might as well rent it just for the achievements.

As for multiplayer objectives, you have Execution where you kill the other team and you can revive yourself when downed after x amount of time. Then you have Warzone where you must be revived by a teammate when downed or die after x amount of time. Then there's Assasination where each team has a leader and the other team has to kill that leader to end the round. And then there's Annex, where each team has to capture places on the map for points and the game ends after one team reaches x amount of points

I'm simplifying the gametypes but you should get the idea. You can also play glitch matches, which I do a lot of because it's fun. Basically run around finding interesting glitches. Run while chainsawing, get outside of map boundaries, skydive, airwalk, etc.

Of course you will like it. The people that say its bad, its because they played it for like 30 minutes. You'll end up loving this game if you constantly play.

Its the best Xbox360 game, trust me!

Agree to rent it first or borrow it from a friend. I love Gears. It's the only reason I got a 360, then I saw the previews for Bioshock.

Yeah, its the best 360 exclusive game out there. Really a fun game - the only game I've actually went back and beaten on every difficulty just cause it was fun.
nothing is more rewarding than the first time you chainsaw a guy.

its a good game. amazing gfx and a pretty good story. the multiplayer is decent, but nothing compared to halo 2. you can easily beat it with a rental, and then try the multiplayer. if u like the multiplayer u can buy it, but like i said, its not as good as halo2.
