What's the fasted fan ala CFM - Page 2

Take a look at the 12V boat ventilators. My boat uses one that sounds like a leaf blower and would do about as well if you could carry it. The plus side to these is that they are designed to fit in a hose already. Mine fits a 3" duct and vents the fuel/battery compartment to keep fumes down.

I attempted the same thing as you on a Nissan Frontier PU non turbo and found it for some reason caused the engine to heat up and not run as well, hopefully your turbo system will fair differently as it should be set up to deal with what ever my system was not.
Cost was like $20 at wall-mart

Good God, this makes my Delta 220cfm look puny...

At what RPM are these fans spinning?
Did it work? My friend keeps asking me. I have a VW with a turbo and he was wondering if it would work on it.

You're not a car person are you?

NO NO NO

first of all forced air prior to the intake filter will reduce the efficiency of the filter.
Second, the idea behind turbo and superchargers is that the faster the motor turns the more air is forced in. If you could somehow force 500cfm through your air filter at low RPM your ECU and possibly Internal turbo timer will just give you the finger and explode.
To accomplish this alteration you would need a wideband monitor to adjust the airflow in corelation to the RPM and how much do you want to assume that when dropping the blower to %40 capacity and then zipping your RPMs back up that your spool time will be SLOWER due to the fact that it has to make up for the fan not adjusting speed as fast as your RPM.

Bad racer... We do that outside.

LOL!!!

That's one of the noobiest posts I've ever seen...

Do you realize how much pressure you'd need to spool a turbo with a computer fan? And the heat generated under the hood?

Your turbo is fine...just leave it be...it will create more of a bottleneck at higher RPMs, than a helping hand at low ones...

If you want the turbo to spool faster, there are other ways to do it.

Are you honestly that retarded.

You say you have a turbocharged car. Putting this fan inline with the intake (cold side) of the turbo will only hinder it.

Your turbo COMPRESSES AIR to 6psi or more of pressure (depending on turbo housing specs and turbine a/r). Do you know how small a force 500cfm is compared to 6psi?

Even A 500CFM fan can not ever compress air nearly as efficiently as the tiny turbine shirring away at 15,000rpm (or more) inside your turbocharger.

Please gb2/school/ and dont do this to your car.

As sidebuns mentioned, there are better ways to have your turbo spool up quicker. Increase the idle RPMS is the easiest (albeit stupidest) way to go about it. A better idea would be to get a smaller turbo, or maybe even just a rebuild onyour current unit could help.

yeah, these fans wouldn't provide enough flow to help you spool up any quicker, these fans wouldn't provide most cars without a turbocharger at WOT enough airflow. if you want to spool up faster, heat shield your headers, and exhaust up to the hot side of the turbo to keep velocity up, and get a bigger downtube from the turbo. Thats just one option, there are many different things you can to do speed up the spooling time, and performance of your turbocharger.

Here's a tip. Drive a 5-speed. Drop the clutch.

If you pull it up to a decent RPM and you drop the clutch with the turbo already spooled up decently...then you won't need to worry about lag as much.
Also, a twin turbo setup instead of a larger turbo decreases lag.
Lower gear ratio would help if you have enough gear (transmission wise) left to keep accelerating at the end of the strip...

what kind of racing are you doing? If it's street, then there's no difference, because it's illegal, and you shouldn't have to worry about turbo lag.
