Tightening timings?

Thread Starter 
If i tighten or loosen my timings will i see a performance gain or a decrease? also my ram is not affecting my OC yet so thats not why im asking, im just looking for the best performance

Yes the tighter the timings you have, there will be a slight performance increase.

In general the tighter your timings at a given frequency the better your performance will be, but tightening your timings too much past their stock timings will cause instability. In general the looser your timings the more stable your system will be, so you can afford to raise the FSB some. Sometimes looser timings at a higher FSB will result in better performance than tighter timings at a lower FSB.

For example, in an A64 system...

3-4-4-8 timings at DDR550 will result in better performance than 2-2-2-5 timings at DDR400.

my memory is VS and cant do above about 210 MHz so I don't/cant OC them, and right now are at 2.5-3-3-7, but i plan to do some more OC'ing so should i wait until I'm done or should i tighten them now?

tighten later, put the ram on a divider and then overclock your CPU, then come back to the ram

ok im hoping for 2.6 and i havent actually tried my memory above 210, i just set the divider, so which would be better,
running the memory at 216, with 166MHz divider,and might have to up voltages
or running the memory at 173, with a 133 MHz divider, and not touching the voltages?

If you tighten the timings as far as you can for each speed, and you don't run programs that are bandwidth-intensive, then 173 would be best, as increasing voltage can does decrease lifespan.
