Comment on this AMD build and give some suggestions please! =D

Thread Starter
After years passing by and my system getting more outdated and outdated; also after a ton of begging, I'm finally able to purchase a whole new computer. I'm looking to buy this in the next 2 weeks or so for around $1050 or LESS CAD$. Yes I live in Canada (Toronto to be exact), so if you have any other build suggestions that would fit my needs better, please use a Canadian site =/. Sadly, my parents probably want me to buy a whole system instead of buying it part by part, so if you have a suggestion please make it a whole system (sorry for the inconvenience)

AMD Performance System
$1,069.00 CANADIAN

AMD ATHLON 64 x 2 AM2 5200+ CPU
ASUS M2N-PLUS SLI VISTA EDITION MB
2GB DDR2 1066 RAM (Probably OCZ)
NVIDIA N8600GTS 256MB PCI-E VIDEO CARD
320G SATA HARDDRIVE
18X DVD +/- RW LIGHTSCRIBE
5.1SOUND CARD
10/100 LAN
ANTEC NSK 6500 MID TOWER
LOGITECH DELUXE KB/OPTICAL MOUSE
600W SUBWOOFER

COMPARED TO...

Intel Performance System
$1,169.00 CANADIAN

INTEL Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU
ASUS P5B MB
1G DDR2 667 RAM
NVIDIA N7950GT 512MB PCIE VIDEO CARD
320G SATAII HARDDRIVE
18X DVD +/- RW LIGHTSCRIBE
5.1SOUND CARD
10/100 LAN
ANTEC SONATA II CASE W/450W POWER SUPPLY
LOGITECH DELUXE KB/OPTICAL MOUSE
600W SUBWOOFER

(In my opinion the features the AMD has [2 GB 1066 RAM, DX10 Video Card] would be more useful in what I'm trying to achieve then the Core2Duo Setup)

Some questions:
In your opinion how do you think this build will this do if I decide NOT to overclock?

How is the motherboard & OCZ ram for overclocking? Obviously I'm going to have to buy a new fan also any suggestions?

Do you think that this build would do fairly well in games? (F.E.A.R, BF2, Hellgate London [when it comes out], and any new FPS/RPGs/MMORPGs)

Also if I get the AMD system what power supply should I get? (Keep in mind I'm in Toronto again)

Also, what do you think is the max it could multitask before being able to notice it running a lot slower? (for example could you be able to be on msn, limewire, couple internet explorers, listen to music, and maybe burn a cd at the same without any notice of it slowing down?)

I really wanted to go Core2Duo, but this looks like a steal with my budget. I plan on gaming on this PC and a bit of multitasking with programs like LDC+Plus, MSN Messenger, Winamp, Mozilla Firefox, Limewire, mIRC, etc. running in the background. Hopefully, I can attempt to make a deal for a Core2Duo CPU & compatible motherboard with the features in the AMD build, from the store that I'm planning on buying this from.

Thanks for your input!

Inthlon.

But is the C2D really worth it with the

ASUS P5B MB
1G DDR2 667 RAM
NVIDIA N7950GT 512MB PCIE VIDEO CARD

compared to the...

ASUS M2N-PLUS SLI VISTA EDITION MB
2GB DDR2 1066 RAM (Probably OCZ)
NVIDIA N8600GTS 256MB PCI-E VIDEO CARD

I'm just praying that I can strike a deal for a Core2Duo from that store with the same features on the AMD.

In that case, no it isn't.

I'd go for that AMD system over that C2D system any day.

C2D isn't worth it over AMD if you have to cheap out on everything else just to be on the bandwagon.

Try this:

The only thing I couldn't find was the 600W Subwoofer. Everything else is there(Audio and Lan are onboard; audio is 8 channel as opposed to 5.1 and Lan is 10/100/1000).

Total is $932.96+shipping and taxes.

Do you even play video games? if you going to get a hight end GPU you will need two gigs of ram to pay games on the highest settings, the CPU is not everthing.I coudent even pay BF2142 on all high setting tell i got my other gig of ram.The ram in this case is way more inportant than the CPU.As a matter if fact (IMO) the CPU is the least inportant thing in making a good gameing rig.

Hmm, It is really?

Cause I'm lookin to build a budget computer and I'm wondering what to get in terms for games. I've made a build that came out around 800 with C2D.

But I'm still wondering about AMD, I've never had one..
