7900GTX vs 8800GTS - Page 3

from your above post, you CLEARLY misunderstood everything this thread was trying to tell you.

Paying more for an open box graphics card thats half as powerful as its opponent? No.

Not to be completely unhelpful, but since you seem entirely clueless as to everything everyone has told you so far i'm gonna make this really easy:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082

Now to see just how badly this card will destroy a 7900GTX, look at the numbers on this page:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=383&card2=475

about 10 times more shader operations, and the same on pixel and texture fill rates. Not to mention vertex operations (not shown for the 8800) will get destroyed by the 8800.

And as mentioned before, the 8800GTS would be much easier to overclock and have it remain stable, meaning it would beat the 7900GTX on all accounts:
1. Compatibility (DX10)
2. Price (100+ dollars cheaper)
3. Ease of use/overclocking
4. Stuff
5. More stuff

Had a rig with Crossfire X1900's. The X1900XT is comparible to the 7900GTX in performance (or at least not too far behind.)

Now I have a single 8800GTS. That card BEATS my former Crossfire rig in 3DMArk benchies.

Here are my results:

3DMark06: 12,022
3DMark05: 20,081
3DMark03: 41,959
3DMark01: 62,582

Of course, I have a great card... overclocked at 675 core / 2210 mem

oh i meant i would get the 8800gtx. u guys have cleard my question. well on the other thought, if the 8800gts 320 is better enough than the 7900gtx then i will surely get the gts or 640 mb gts.
Rep+ for all.
thx guys

I would say get the 640MB GTS, just to be safe. The 320MB may be able to handle everything today, who knows how demanding complete DX10 games will be.

It's this, basically:

Everything is smoothed out. Turn anti-aliasing on, and notice power cables lines smooth out, instead of being jagged.

What resolution are you running at?

1280x1024 and under, and you won't need 640mb.

It's not only resolution that matters. It's also the games that you (plan to) play.

And I do assume anyone in the market for an 8800 plays at a higher resolution than 1280x1024... it not, they need to have different priorities (i.e. new monitor)

There shuold be difference in image quality.

and if that's the only game you play, and you don't care much about higher res, why get such an expensive card?!
