time to make my mind up

Thread Starter
OK. I'm going to be completely honest with you guys. I've never overclocked a PC before. I've got about $500-600 to drop on a case and thats without factoring in a graphics card. I just want a gaming machine that I can play games like Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and such on. I don't really want to overclock. Assuming I wasn't over clocking would I be better off with a core2duo or an AMD x2 of the same price? I keep hearing that yes, core2duo's are incredible because of their overclockabilitity, but I've never overclocked and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it knowing I just spent $600 on the PC.

Input please. You guys are really good at that.

with the price I'm going for I can only afford an E4300.

$100 for ram, $55 for case, $50 for PSU, $160 for mobo, $30 for shipping, $30 for drive.

go core2 right now, even the 4300 is probably better than an AMD of equivalent price, especially if you do clock her up (on overclock.net, you will be told to overclock no matter what lol)
