Thread Starter
Well I recentely bought a PC off someone with Windows XP Pro pre-installed but it still had his account on and he doesn't have the disc so is there anyway at all I can reset it to windows XP factory settings so I can just boot up and make my new account? or must I save up to buy a disc. Cheers.

You just need to delete his account and make your own.
Control Panel>User Accounts>User Accounts>(then delete profile or create new profile or whatever)

If you leave his on there, make sure you make yourself an administrator.

It depends on whether it is a retail, or OEM copy. I'm assuming your talking about activating it as genuine windows. If is a retail copy then yes, you can use the code. If its OEM then perhaps not, because you can only install it on one computer, and if there is any major hardware change, you have to reactivate it.

I haven't installed my new HDD yet. I was thinking of installing it then cloning the hard drive from this comp to the new one. Will it get rid of the XP on the new comp and replace it with the XP home with all my files and settings from the comp im using now?

Just install the OS on the new drive and then copy over all the files you need.
Very nice!

It can be a little tricky to completely clone a HD from another and make it a bootable drive, unless its the same size HD. If you are interest in cloning your drive check this page out.
