no this is my only 775 mobo.

the thing is, i can play all of my games at max settings at stock, so it's not THAT big of a deal but i spent $150 on watercooling to overclock higher and i can't overclock at all...

Hmm....

This is a shot-in-the-dark...

I looks like that NB cooler fan is drawing air (puller). That G80 is really close to the HS and there is little headroom for intake. The G80's run fairly hot and that cooler is on the backside of the GPU die.

Maybe hot air is being drawn across the cooler thereby negating the cooling potential...?

it's actually pushing air into the 8800, i had it pulling before but i noticed that was happening so i switched it so now it's pushing air down and it helps my GPU temps also lol.

Okay...

So the system is completely stable at stock settings?

oh, and sorry about my initial question in regards to the active cooling... I should have read your initial post with more attention as you mentioned cooling...

Personally I am at somewhat of a loss...

I know this is a pain , but would you be willing to swap the water block with the BT and see if you can OC then?

It is time-consuming, but the results may shed a lot of light on your issue.

yeah i think i'll have to try that.

Did you try a CMOS reset just for the heck of it?

You never know.

Another thing, doesn't look like you have room for it, but could you turn the northbridge heatsink the other way? Heatpipes don't work if they're perfectly flat or at a downward incline, and I'd say there's a slight downward incline here (since the weight will pull it down a bit).

If you can turn it the other way (by putting that gfx card in a different slot), then the heat pipes will function as intended.

Find your NB temps with asus probe or speedfan, which ever you want. I think you've got a setting in your BIOS somewhere hating you.

Sounds like a setting (bios) related wall rather than poorly seated heatsink, especially since it is perfectly stable at the overclock you managed with your air cooler, right?

Have you disabled all the useless things in bios?
