A broken capacitor wouldn't prevent you from overclocking, it would prevent your mobo from working period.

Well, if he broke it during installation, it would be completely detached from the mobo, which would make it stop working completely, vs an old capacitor that might've leaked a little, it might still kinda work.

also, why would a broken capacitor allow a fully stable non oc speed and then fugger up with the most minute increase? i ask this not because i'm saying a capacitor isn't the reason, just because i don't know if this scenario is even possible...

are you positive every bios setting was saved? it's not like it's a tough thing to manually go through it...are you sure all the speed control stuff is turned off?

well i did finally get it to overclock but still not as far as before, i cant get it past 2.8...

i think i figured it out... we need to turn on our air conditioning. everything in my case is getting too hot, no matter how much airflow i get. my GTX started artifacting at stock yesterday, and it's around 90 here atm.
