A 1 year licence is £27...Does that mean when that finishes, I have to go on the website and pay another £27 for a new licence?

I believe it is from Kazaa, at least it used to be advertised a lot with Kazaa.

A one year licence means that after a year you won't be able to get new virus definitions (well at least with most antivirus programs thats the case).

Yes true after 1 year you won't get any definitions, although nod32 is updated almost every single day so it will kinda suck

I'd be happy to subscribe for another year, but just as long as NOD32 doesn't totally deactivate itself after it expires.

I am not sure if NOD32 deactivates or not, but I think the majority carry on with old definitions. I think Norton keeps going for an extra month then disables protection (I think).

I did use Kapersky until my subscription ran out a few month ago, now I am using Avira Antivir and I must say that it is on par with Kaspersky if not better
I have not had one virus get through with it at all
