8800 GTX Issues

Thread Starter
I am having some problems with my video card "8800GTX" while playing games.
I thought it was because of SLI but I am currently running one card and it does the same thing.

Problem:
I can play games on my rig for about an hour when the screen goes black and the sound starts to skip, video comes back and goes away until eventualy total blackness.
Alt+Tab or Alt+F4 to get back to desk top then my computer seems to run fine until I run a game then the same thing happens.

I have tried both cards alone one at a time... no help.
Both cards together "SLI"... no help.
I have the latest drivers from Nvidia "ForceWare Version 158.22" WinXP
I used add/remove programs from control panel while in safe mode to remove old drivers before installing new ones.

I am at a standstill... I just hope somene has had this same problem and can help me so I don't have to start RMAing all of my stuff.

hmmm, I'm going thru something similar right now. I clocked my cpu back to stock to see if I am overheating or something. Heat has never been a problem before. My gtx came overclocked from EVGA so if it continues, I will try setting the gtx back to stock. Sorry I couldn't help but now you know you are not alone, lol. It only happens to me when I am playing rFactor. (racing game)

What are the temps at load? Play again for an hour and use a program to see what the temp is at that moment. And what are your other temps? Like your room, MB, CPU, maybe your casetemp gets too high. Could be the that, otherwise try some older drivers. Don't forget to clean the old ones good.

Anything over 80 deg C is not too good. I reach 76 with my GTS and game for hours.

Dude you mentioned you removed drivers from using the Add/Remove tool

Download Driver Cleaner Pro

Then go into Safe Mode and un-install the Nvidia drivers. Install fresh ones and see if the problem still occurs.

The Add/Remove might not have fully gotten rid of the drivers and so they may be conflicting.

Is it possible that the conflict can only occur after an hour of gaming?

I don;t know, i suppose drivers can conflict at anytime really.

Thats why i said it's a possibility. I can't say fro sure that it is the problem, but it is definately worth checking.
