HELP!!! Ive a very wierd problem Ive never seen and cant fix

Thread Starter
Thanx for looking at this thread. Im having a very wierd problem. Windows starts up ok, but when I get to desktop I cannot click on most any icon, start menu button, 'x' button to close out windows nothing. I can right click and bring up the small menu but cannot click on anying in the menu or the 'x' to close it. When I hold the cursor over the start button or x or anything else the buttons do not light up or change color like they usually do to signal your cursor is over them. Ive tried other mice and know its not the mouse.

I have a all new parts and this problem only started after 2 weeks of good operation. Ive an AMD 6000+ witha zalman 9500 on it. The mobo is an Evga 590 SLi. Psu - BFG 650W, RAM - G Skill 2x1gig 4435 2T (currently at default settings 5-5-515 2T 1.9W), BFG 8800 GTX OC2 640mb, Western digial 74 gig raptor, and 150 gig Raptor X, Antec P180B case, 2xDVD roms and a Fatal1ty X-fi sound card.

Like I said everything worked fine for a couple weeks then this.

HELP me figure out if I can fix this. If its not fixable then which part/parts do I rma??
thanx

Maybe its just a crappy mouse Is your lef mouse button broken?

Can you still launch programs with the keyboard, windows key into the start menu, winkey+r to launch the run menu, all that stuff?

Can u alt+F4 out of programs?

BTW welcome to OCN and it would help out if you put your specs in your sig from User CP

what OS are you running? have you overclocked your CPU any? Did you download any programs in the last week or two? Have you tried system restore? Do you have AV software? pretty much we're going to need a little more info on your system such as software.

Win XP pro sp2; no but I tried to get my memory timings set to thier advertised timings 4-4-3-5 at 2.0W with no success; nothing other than games, winamp, drivers, windows office; no av software

I did flash my bios with help from evga tech support and successfully I might add. the stock version didnt recognize my 6000+

The new bios seems to be working I guess. I didnt notice these problems until I started jacking with my mem timings.

Methinks a virus, seeing as you have no antivirus software. I recommend SpyBot and AVG.

Ive since pulled out the cmos battery and reset my bios, loaded defaults and tried that. Ive tried different mice. Ive run dban on my hdd's and wiped them clean with the department of defense deep wipe and reinstalled window, and still get the same problems, even with all settings default.

unless the virus is hidding in in my dvd roms or vid cards firmware, there is no way it could be a virus. after running deriks boot and nuke using the dod 7 layer wipe on both drives, any virus is long but gone now. and yet still the problem persists

I simply cannot get anything to respond to my left click unless I cntr-alt-del. !! Yes, seriously, if I ctr-alt-del I can us the left click but only on the open application. if I close it and open aother, the left click doesnt work until I ctr-alt-del again????!!!

Try resetting the memory timings? Something might have been fried.

Might be a dodgy PS2 mouse connector or controller on your motherboard. Best bet in that scenario is to RMA the motherboard.
