Meh....meh!
Ok, first off, almost *all* notebooks have light bleed.

Now, even if this has *significant* light bleed, it still doenst' really matter. You won't notice it whatsoever in a well-lit room, and at night time all that will happen is that the bottom of the screen will look a little lighter than the top. Really, its not the end of the world.

Any laptop in this price range will have some light bleed. It just sounds like this one might be a little more apparent - but you'll notice that the overall average rating of that laptop is still 5 eggs -- that says alot!

So, in other words, when I'm gaming (probably INSIDE ), I can quite literally eliminate any signs of teh bleeding? Sweet deal!

Hmm, I'm still a bit concerned because it's hard to find a good compromise....like this Laptop will probably be awesome for like 90% of situations, but when I really need some decent battery life it's gonna fail me. I need to think about what I really care about....battery life....or performance...hmmm do I need it? Will I really have time for serious gaming....? Can I picture myself unplugged out in public, or will I just be at home as usual (gaming)?

Have any ideas what to do w/ my 4 hard drives here at home (1's external). Kinda wanna build an mATX rig and take it with mee...but that requires an external monitor...LCD definately..but still......If only Laptops took an external video signal more conveniently.. bah

Not at all!

I just got the $980 Dell E1505 I ordered recently (2GB ram/1.73 Ghz C2D/X1400/etc...) and it really is a nice laptop...especially for the money.

The battery life isn't too bad either - I got over two hours last nigh with the 6-cell - and they offer 9 and 12 cell options as well.

So let's break this down into an easy to use chart:

Options:

1) Dell M1210 - ~$1,500 - $1,600
Pros: Compact, Moveable, great battery life, decent video card, C2D procs, options galore, etc...
Cons: Cost. Screen Size. Keyboard size. (Nothing that can't be rememdied, though, with a $20 external keyboard and a $160 LCD monitor from Newegg).

2) Asus 14" Go7700 Lappy ~$1,450
Pros: Kind of Compact, Moveable, GREAT video card, good value, a solid system.
Cons: Turion Proc, 1 GB of ram, moderate battery life, expensive, and a little screen bleed

3) Dell E1505 ~$900 - $1,100
Pros: INCREDIBLE VALUE. Stomps all over the above options in bang/buck area. Decent video card. C2D procs. Options galore.
Cons: Large @ 15.4 inches. Rather Heavy.

4) Lenovo 14" Widscreen model:
Pros: Durable. Nice Keyboard.
Cons: An absolute rip-off. 2-year-old technology. Mediocre vid card w/64MB mem.

Is this a good summation?

Lol, I know how mad this is gonna make you, but I don't want a Dell because....well it's a Dell

Seriously, I would be kinda embarrassed having a Dell...their ad's are soooo obnoxious, (and they're all over TV)...I'd feel like such a noob computer user getting one, if you get my drift. And that silly dELL logo, it's so goofy...all the computers at my school had one (plastic deLL "buttons") and 75% of them had their buttons stolen. I just feel like dell's are rather idiomatic, like a typical smiling student with his shiny new DELL !!

Just the name annoys me. Has a clumsy ring to it.....

Well, in case you decide to lose the chip on your shoulder, Dell has a deal only good until next Monday:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=bycwl1s&s=bsd

M1210 for $999 plus free shipping.

Also, the XPS models don't say dell all over them - they say XPS. The M1210 has a leathery exterior too, it's not a standard grey plastic dell.

Anyway, if it's worth it to you to spend $100's of extra to buy a lesser computer so that you don't have the dell name, then I'm not sure how much more of a help we can be to you here.

On one hand you want a bargain computer with lots of power, but on the other hand you don't want a bargain brand.

If all of the sudden you have all this extra money to spend, maybe try Alienware or VoodooPC?

The reality is that Dell makes the highest performance desktops and laptops available today (The M1710 laptop and the XPS H2C desktop...not to mention that they own Alienware). If you don't like Dell simply because lots of people have them...well...lots of people have them for a reason. Moreover, in Europe, very few people have them.

You seem to like that $1450 Asus alot. I would just wait for more of those to return to stock - or buy it somewhere else. It is a great computer for the money (but, again, not nearly as good of a deal as a Dell).

Otherwise, I think you know what's out there by now.

Let us all know what you choose!

Ok, I sorta take back what I said 2 posts ago...but still, I would prefer to have something other than a Dell

Right now in terms of Price/performance/battery life a Dell's lookin pretty sweet tho!
